Oral surgeon recommends leaving impacted wisdom tooth alone

Oral surgeon recommends leaving impacted wisdom tooth alone

Some background:

I am 34. I’ve had braces. Been to dentists regularly. I have NEVER been told to remove my wisdom teeth. I have one bothering me now (only one that is erupted) which is why I got a consultation.

So now a little anxious after my appointment this morning with an oral surgeon. He’s recommending extracting my bottom left wisdom tooth, which is erupted and causing inflammation. But he was also pretty aggressive about shaming my previous dental care and not getting my wisdom teeth taken out as a teen. I didn’t really know what to do with this information, as it’s never come up until recently with this erupted tooth.

The bottom right side (the sideways tooth) he is more or less telling me to forget about it and monitor, as extraction would bring more risk than reward at this point, and would require me finding a specialist. I don’t have any pain or other symptoms associated with this side

Should I get a second opinion about this? Everyone on the internet seems to think it’s better to remove a tooth like this ASAP.
