Struggling with my easy pace

I am a female and currently run like 11:45 pace for 20-25 mpw with a hr ranging anywhere from 148-159 and my coach is telling me thats too high (my max is 199) and I need to slow down until I reach the 130s.

This would mean I would likely be at a 12-13 min mile, maybe even 14 mins which would make running my mileage take even longer when I was already feeling disappointed with my easy pace.

Is this normal? Why is my heart rate so high even at what is hardly considered a jog/walk for some people and is it even considered running if I have to drop that slow on my runs

For reference I am just a slower runner in general. I started at a 30+ min 5k and am now around 25 mins.

I know it’s my coach but is this good advice and should I just not stress about needing to slow down? Or is there an issue with my heart rate

Thank you in advance

body reacts bad to long runs

I’ve been trying to increase my mileage after outdoor to prepare for cross country but whenever i reach the 4-5 mile mark my ankles start swelling up? (weird ik), it’s not so horrible that I can’t run further on it but once I finish the run I can press down on my ankles and feel the swelling, it only goes down when I stop running over 4 miles consecutively.

It’s even weirder because I can handle over 7 miles of a workout with no injury when it’s broken up: ex 400m repeats + warmups and cooldowns

what can I do to prevent this? I think long runs are necessary if I want to get better at longer distances, and i made sure to go at an easy pace

I’m a sophmore wrapping up my outdoor track season with a 6:55 mile. i started off at 9 minutes freshman year and only was just now able to break 7 minutes.

the idea of improving even more excites me and i want to qualify for states (5:30 ish mile) and actually become an asset to my team

but when i look at the profiles of the girls who are running these fast times now, it’s like they’ve never been slow or i never see any starting times as slow as mines which feels a bit discouraging

is this even possible by my junior or senior year if i train consistently through summer, xc, indoor, and outdoor? i can answer any questions if needed
