Packing/clothing essentials for fall/winter semester in Ostrava
Hi everyone! I’ll be moving to Ostrava as an exchange student for a semester, from mid-September to mid-January this year. I’m trying to figure out what clothes to pack. I have limited baggage, so I’d really appreciate some advice from locals/students.
A few things I’m wondering:
- Do dorms, university buildings, shops, etc. generally have good indoor heating? What do you typically wear indoors during winter?
- For September → January, how much of a change in clothing would I need? Would I need proper summer-ish clothes for September/early October, or is it already quite chilly?
- What do the locals typically wear outdoors in winters?
- What would you consider the absolute clothing essentials for someone staying in Ostrava for these four months?
I’m coming from India, so I’m not very familiar with Central European winters and don’t want to either under-pack or waste precious luggage space packing unnecessary bulky clothes.
Any advice on what you actually wear day-to-day would be really helpful!
P.S. I'm sorry if the indoor heating question sounds offensive, as that was not my intention. I come from India, where it's extremely hot, and I've never travelled abroad. We don't have the concept of indoor heating here, and that's the normal for me. I just wanted to come prepared, especially considering I'm very bad at handling the cold.
