Fitel S176 Fiber Feeding

Fitel S176 Fiber Feeding

I’ve been playing with the Fitel S176 I got off eBay a few months ago.

All the motors work. Motor limit tests all pass

Cleaned the pads and v-grooves.

I get the feeling this thing spent most of its 20 years in it’s shipping case as it’s got less wear than my cell phone which I like to leave at home connected to it’s charger.

It does sometimes manage to try to align the cores, so I believe it's not broken, but it is having an awfully hard time feeding fiber. It shouldn't be quite this touchy.

Anything I should be looking to check?

What does UPS encode on their RFID tags?

I recently saw one of my packages on UPS came up with an RFID icon, which is neat, but outside of the tag ID, what else do they put on the tag? The traditional UPS tracking #? Routing info? I have no way to read one so, I figured this was the right place to ask.

Is the long term plan to have everyone who regularly ships UPS have a roll of generic RFID tags and you peel one off and associate it at time the package is created? (like through a bar code because as these RFID readers are expensive..) ?

Good on UPS for taking the plunge on this, but I've seen basically no technical info on the actual tag implementation.
