Diasporans, please keep tabs on your old folk. Don't take it for granted that the people around them care
I won't be going into detail because the circumstances and timing are identifiable, but damn, check in on your folks. Like really check in on them. On top of whatever contact you have with them, arrange undercover welfare inspections with people you trust who can use all their senses to check their living conditions or monitor medical treatments, put networked cameras in the home if you can and make sure to look over the footage regularly, set up location sharing so you know if they haven't gone anywhere in a while, ask your folks point blank if anything's up but don't put it past them to let pride, intimidation or shame make them hide things from you... Make sure the people left in charge of their welfare know that you are invested and locked in on them fulfilling their role and if they can't do that, they can f right off.
People shouldn't be taken advantage of and dying from lack of basic things while you're out there thinking everything is cool.
