Hi all,

I've recently been diagnosed with protanomaly (red-green deficiency). I am living in Ireland. Does anyone know if there are contact lenses available for this condition here? I've been searching and there doesn't seem to be much information online. There was one place in County Cork but unfortunately they don't perscribe them anymore.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for any and all replies.

Colour deficiency

Hello all,

I am a brand new applicant and am currently awaiting my date for the interview in which I'm 100% confident I will pass aswel as the fitness test. However, I've been doing the Ishihara plate test online and may have very mild protanomaly (red-green deficiency) according to some results which has led me to book a colour test in an opticians to get a professional opinion. I'm starting to worry about it as I'm aware that normal vision is a must requirement to join.

So my question is, if worst comes to worst in my medical and I fail the plate test, have I any hope of getting in at all despite having passed everything else with flying colours? (Pun unintentional). Is it maybe possible that because they are trying to build up quite a number of personnel as part of the new budget that they will scrap this rule eventually or by some crazy miracle overlook my result? It has never once hindered me in life at all.

I am 35 now and have my daughters future to secure and honestly would give anything to join the Irish DF as I felt like I missed the opportunity many years ago due to other career choices that are just not viable anymore in this economy but now have the chance. This is something I absolutely believe I would excel in despite my colour vision. It means everything to me for my daughters sake. I never knew about my eyes until now, but I am absolutely determined to enlist still.

Thank you in advance for any and all replies.
