SolarVisionX update: sorry for the silence, here’s what we’ve been building (plus wiring diagrams for the dongle and SSR)

Hey everyone,

I went quiet for a few days. We ran internal testing, found a bunch of bugs and fixed them before pushing anything out. I also never showed the wiring, so the inverter wiring for the dongle and the SSR implementation are attached.

Parts List:

1) esp32 c3 mini: https://digilog.pk/products/esp32-c3-super-mini-development-board-in-pakistan?_psq=esp32+c3&_psid=1e4133926

2)Max3232: https://digilog.pk/products/original-mini-rs232-to-ttl-converter-adaptor-module-board-max3232-serial-port

3) SSR: https://digilog.pk/products/solid-state-relay-fotek-ssr-40-da

4) Trigger switch for SSR: https://digilog.pk/products/15a-400w-mosfet-trigger-switch-drive-module-in-pakistan (Note:SSR isnt required the dongle is just providing a control signal you can use a contactor too)

What’s new

System Analytics Charts
A whole new analytics section with charts built from your recorded logs. Instead of just live numbers, you can now dig into the history of what your system has been doing, in proper detail.

Solar Forecast + Detailed Reports
See what your system is expected to produce, and generate detailed reports of how it actually performed.

Inverter settings for legacy (SmartESS / DESS Monitor) users
Many installers use our app but had to switch to another app just to change inverter settings. That’s no longer needed. Settings are now inside SolarVisionX.

Blackbox
When your inverter throws a fault (F07, F09, F53, etc.), the dongle freezes a snapshot of what was happening at that moment:

  • Fault code
  • Battery voltage and load
  • PV and grid voltage
  • Active operating mode
  • Heatsink temperature

You can review the history in the app under Settings → Inverter Blackbox & Fault History, so you’re not guessing why it tripped.

SSR load control
The SSR is implemented and running on the dongle. It is off by default and independent from inverter mode switching. It supports:

  • Delayed or instant shedding on grid loss
  • A grid-restore delay (default 2 minutes) to protect compressors
  • Battery cutoff and recovery by SOC or voltage, with a sag filter so motor startups don’t trigger false cutoffs
  • Automatic re-energizing when solar recharges the battery during an outage

Automation

  • Self-consumption automation
  • Daytime inverter mode switching (SBU / SUB / USB)
  • Everything runs on the dongle itself, so it keeps working if your WiFi drops

AI assistant (read-only, dongle users only)
Connect your dongle to Claude and ask things like “Why did my inverter switch to battery?” or “Why was generation low today?” It’s 100% read-only. It can explain what’s going on but can’t change any settings.

Notifications
You get alerts when:

  • The grid goes down or comes back
  • The inverter reports a fault
  • Temperature, fan or overload problems occur
  • Daily summary

Power note for the SSR: If you use the SSR, power the dongle from an external 5V supply (or a step-down). If you’re only using the dongle, power from the inverter’s COM port is fine. In every case, keep a common GND.

A note on why we’re doing this

This project isn’t about making money. We built it for the community because the apps that come with Voltronic inverters are poorly made, and they aren’t ours, so we can’t fix them from the inside.

For dongle users: we charge 1k, and that only goes toward keeping everything running. The parts list is open, so you build the dongle yourself. We’re not selling you hardware, we’re just keeping the service up.

If you want to help build or improve the app, or just have thoughts on it, drop your reviews, bugs, feature requests and ideas in the comments. We read everything, and it shapes what we build next.

Diagrams are attached. Questions, bugs and feature requests are welcome in the comments.

SolarVisionX v2.2 drops with a Web Portal + our first Dongle integration (Testing prototypes shipping next week!)

Hey everyone,

Big update: SolarVisionX v2.2 has officially been pushed for release, and along with it we've launched a brand new Web Portal for managing SolarVisionX Dongles.

What's new

  • Web Portal for Dongles: manage and monitor your SolarVisionX dongle straight from the browser.
  • Dongle Support: SolarVisionX now officially supports our companion dongle, with a lot more dongle-specific features currently in development.

The dongle shows the same data the app already does, it just adds real-time notifications on top. Here's what we've added:

What the dongle gets you right now

Once your dongle is connected, you'll start getting real-time notifications for:

  • Grid status: grid gone / grid restored
  • Battery status: current battery percentage
  • PV status
  • Battery runtime estimate: a heads-up on when your battery will run out once the grid goes down
  • OTA update notifications: know exactly when your dongle is updating itself

Dongle Testing Program

For everyone selected in our testing program, your dongles will be shipped out and should arrive within a week or less. A few of you (same city as me) might even get it as soon as tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Want to build your own dongle?

You don't have to wait for a tester slot, you can build your own DIY dongle right now:

  1. Head to our website and use the firmware flasher to flash the SolarVisionX dongle firmware onto your device. The flasher is built right into our website with the web portal, no separate app needed to flash it.

  2. On iOS and don't have an Android device? No problem, you can set up and configure your dongle entirely through our web portal, no Android device required.

  3. First, create a SolarVisionX account through either the app or the web portal. Once you have an account, you can configure your dongle from whichever you prefer, the web portal or the Android app.

  4. We provide full wiring instructions for connecting to your Voltronic inverter.

  5. The dongle is powered externally via a USB-C port, usually drawing 1.5W or less at idle. If you'd rather power it straight from the inverter, check your inverter's voltage using Pin 4 (VCC) and Pin 8 (GND), and use a buck converter matched to that voltage.

  6. Once flashed and connected to WiFi, DM me your dongle's serial number so we can get your license activated.

If you guys still have a wiring issue just dm us we'll send you the photos of the wiring too, but our website still has the wiring details too.

First 2 people who build their own dongle and send in their serial number get their license for free.

Quick troubleshooting

If your dongle has been flashed but isn't sending data yet, check the blue LED. If it's flickering, the dongle is in OTA update mode. Just give it a minute or two (depending on your internet speed) and it'll catch up.

Roadmap

We've also added a roadmap page to the website so you can see what's coming next for both the app and the dongle.

Bigger news

We're currently in talks with a company that wants to install SolarVisionX directly on their inverters (they loved it enough to want it built-in!). It's for a different region for now, but it's an exciting sign of where this is headed.

Check out the website if you want to build your own DIY dongle, grab the firmware, or just see what's coming next on the roadmap.

https://solarvisionx.elgato-studio.com/roadmap.html

Can't wait to hear updates from our upcoming testers starting tomorrow!

And genuinely, thank you all for the support. Between your feedback and the issues you helped us catch, SolarVisionX wouldn't be where it is today.

Looking for testers — SolarVisionX dongle for Voltronic inverters

Looking for a few Voltronic inverter owners interested in testing the SolarVisionX dongle, a DIY monitoring/automation setup I've been working on. It covers live monitoring (temperature, fan speed, grid data), push notifications for inverter status, and automation features like mode switching and charge scheduling rolling out soon. Comment if you're interested and I'll share more details. Also dongle is just 810 ruppee in parts. We'll send it out to you too for free with free license tooo.

Thanks so much for the support, everyone! We've got enough testers for this round, so we're closing applications here. As a thank-you, everyone who commented on this post will get a free dongle from us. Really appreciate the interest, more updates coming soon.

Battery Suggestion

One of family member installed the solarmax 6kw orion. And They have a load of 3 fan and few smd with ac on light load. Like with no wapda and battery inverter is handling the 900-1200 load. And they want to run 1000 watt motor or iron during solar. Because they have to been on AC2 port which will be on position when batteries are installed. So. combined load is not more than 2500 watts max.

1 Inverter Fridge
1 Inverter AC
3 Inverter fan
6 smd 7watts

So, they're planning to buy the pheonix 100ah battery four of them to connect it in series for 48v. So combined 48v 100ah.

Important thing: When batteries will be installed the ac will be shifted to ac2 port (heavy load). Light load will no more than 400 watts. On battery backup they just want to run light load no heavy load. So, my question is it enough batteries to run 400 watt if power goes and no solar.
