Months Ago I Warned About These Basement Parties. The City Finally Listened!

Well… I told you so. 😂
Remember last semester when I went absolutely feral over these basement frat parties downtown?

I posted about them over and over. I talked about 300+ people being packed into basements. Fire code. Occupancy. Zoning. Exits. Unlicensed party spaces. I contacted the city. I pissed off landlords. I pissed off frat guys. I pissed off half of Reddit.

And every single time the response was basically:
“the city doesn’t care”
“they’ve been doing it for years”
“nothing is ever going to happen”
“why do you care?”
“they’re never going to shut them down”

Welllllllllllll.

Pipe Dream just reported that the City of Binghamton has officially started cracking down on student basement parties downtown.
The FIRE MARSHAL is now serving properties with notices ordering unauthorized basement parties, assemblies and entertainment activities to CEASE IMMEDIATELY.

And my favorite part?
The mayor specifically talked about one location where MORE THAN 300 PEOPLE were identified.
300.

Where have we heard that number before? 😂

I’m not delusional enough to sit here and say one Reddit page single-handedly caused the City of Binghamton to change enforcement policy. Obviously there were complaints from residents, businesses, BU and others too.

But am I going to pretend that months of publicly documenting this shit, filing complaints, asking questions and refusing to shut up had absolutely nothing to do with putting more attention on it?

Absolutely not.

The entire argument I made last semester was that the city did NOT have to wait until somebody died in an overcrowded basement to enforce fire code and occupancy rules.

People told me I was wasting my time.

Apparently I wasn’t.

You guys can hate Binghamton Uncensored all you want.
But sometimes being the annoying asshole who refuses to drop something actually works. 😂

Welcome back everyone.
I missed this place.

Why is O2 being treated like a victim? And why Pat McMahon is right.

Binghamton Facebook is in full meltdown mode again, so let’s talk about it.

Everybody is screaming, threatening people, picking sides and acting like anyone who questions the narrative is somehow the problem.

No.

The problem is the culture of violence, retaliation and intimidation that keeps getting excused every single time something like this happens.

O2 is being talked about all over Facebook like he was some innocent bystander and nobody is even waiting for the full story to come out. There is already plenty of public discussion about his history and the people around him. That does not mean anybody knows exactly what happened in this specific incident, but it also does not mean everyone has to suddenly pretend there is no context.

And Pat McMahon?

He is allowed to have an opinion.

You don’t have to like it. You can call him an asshole. You can argue with him. You can block him.

What you don’t get to do is start posting “O2 knows this person, O2 knows that person, you better watch yourself” because somebody said something you didn’t like.

That is literally the same thug mentality people claim they are so offended about being called out for.

If your response to words is threats, retaliation and “we’re gonna get you,” congratulations, you just proved the entire point.

And this is the part nobody wants to hear….

When a family has already experienced the absolute worst outcome imaginable, continuing the same threats, the same retaliation talk and the same violent mentality is not honoring anybody. It is feeding the exact cycle that keeps putting young men in graves.

That should piss people off more than a Facebook post.
Binghamton does not need more fake outrage.

It needs fewer guns in the hands of violent people, fewer repeat offenders cycling through the streets, fewer threats over social media and fewer people pretending this lifestyle is normal.

Stop glorifying it.
Stop excusing it.
Stop threatening people who call it out.
And maybe start asking why this keeps happening.
