Play home/away within division, play home or away rest (+ extra game vs a team from each division on a rotation)- 15 game regular season
top team from each div = playoffs with home advantage
top 4 'other' teams by points = playoffs
standard knockouts, quarter finals-semis-finals.
#Additional revenue/comp level raise:
Create a champs league for the 4 division winners, plus the winner of japanese league, the argentinian league, currie cup winner, MLR winner that plays during the season. single knockout format. PLUS create an equiv tourney for 2nd place in each of those.
All countries involved in super rugby agree that players are eligible for their national teams as long as they play in the comp, regardless of what country they're playing in. Revenue sharing and salary caps/floors enforced. However rule that 75/80% of roster must be 'domestic' (or some such %). Maybe do it like the designated player rule in MLS, x number of players in a few categories (a development player, a u23, 3 or 4 sr contracts or something)
In NZ- remove teams in cities that have super from NPC, go down the proper semi pro path with NPC, merge back with heartland and have it be true club rugby with a focus on developing youth mixed with players fighting for super contracts (not intended to be a money maker, intended to be an ongoing expense for NZR/the super clubs).
All this both focus' and increases revenues, more evenly distributes talent. and hopefully brings in a lot more attention/money from overseas. NZ gets more domestic rivalries/derbies to sell more tickets and get more viewers. And hopefully brings a bit of regionalism back to things. Aus keeps a guaranteed playoff spot, plus a guaranteed champs league spot, while also getting more access to kiwis (plus more spots for young aussies in NZ!). Japan gets to get more of their players into a higher level comp too. And also gets a chance for its top division team to get more exposure/play a comp against some solid competition. And SA can keep a foot in SR
Easy peasy. And if it goes well, expansion opportunities in Melbourne, new plymouth, tasman, argentina.
My guesses:
Boks:
IMO the boks attack will shift to a faster pace/closer to the ruck focus to draw more of the ABs defenders to probably a side of the field, then try and go wider after multiple phases. they'll want a lot of bodies around rucks to just muck up the cover defending/extra support and try to create more situations like the one that created their only try (where a lot of ABs defenders got stuck in the wash and the 2 or 3 backs were on an island covering half the field from 4 or 5 boks)
more contestable kicks. they really found an opportunity to exploit the ABs approach to chasing kicks. surely they'll try and spam that as it's going to be near impossible for the ABs to change in the middle of a tour/season. it feels like a cheat code for them almost
on defence: I think they slow down/come off the line a bit. the ABs dared them to come fast and pressure and hit the ABs hard, and the boks did! and totally tired themselves out
ABs:
ABs seemed to do well with the little kicks into space when they didnt want to just absorb that boks line speed. I expect they'll try that even more next week, esp if the boks slow down the defensive line a bit
kick chasing. I'm not smart enough to know how here- we cant just fundamentally change the entire structre we're playing. but maybe its sending 2 guys sprinting back rather than just 1
Just some early thoughts. Whats the bet?
24 teams have had more coaches (including Vegas!), 4 tied with us (including Seattle!)
The 3 teams who have had fewer than our 3? Carolina, Colorado and Tampa.
The league average is 4.6 coaches in that period (including expansion teams!), but 10 teams have had 6 or more (so double the Leafs).
Those 10 include Philly, the Ducks, Dallas, Edmonton and Florida
Can we stop whining about this 'core' getting so many chances with new coaches? They've had fewer than any core currently in the NHL in recent history. Statistically we've had over 1.5 fewer coaches than would be expected
... that didn't go super well. From the reaction it seemed legit. Good for her getting a proper SNL tryout but legit would be sad to see her go.
That was also jokes. Pairing her with Josh was diabolical. There was no way anything edible was going to come from that lol
And seriously, its crazy someone from smosh could get an SNL audition. Thats wild. Fucking good for her.
