Rx sunglasses for snow?

Anyone know if there anywhere online I can send my prescription and get good sunglasses for sunny snow? Or should I wear ski goggles or something over my regular glasses?

gravel bridges / little caves on Palmer.

On Palmer yesterday and noticed some impressive looking water etched (I'm guessing it was flowing water) features in the loose glacial till. I saw a bridge/open arch structure spanning maybe 3-4 feet. If my track is right elevation was about 7900 feet. There were some sharp slope gorges and pretty deep undercuts and caves which I'm sure are ridiculously unstable. I don't know what I'm looking at here but I'm thinking for anyone waiting for a little snow up there to skin up/ski down, maybe let it all fill in and consolidate a bit. My pictures are of course bigfoot level of crappy, didn't have much time and self preservation prevented getting close or good lighting angles.

will long term oral Lamasil affect cardiovascular performance or possible altitude sickness

I'm a male in my mid 50s.. my Dr has given me perscription for 9 months of oral Lamasil. She says all I need to do is get blood test after a month of use so they can check liver function, and if it's fine, it's fine. I'm hoping to do some climbing (hood) next spring. I'm in barely good enough condition for it at this point and am planning/hoping to push both cv and leg strength up a little bit over the next 8 months. So for the lamasil I'm wondering if anyone has general thoughts on this "if bloodtest show no liver issues it's fine" statement, and if it will affect either condition or the ability to improve condition.

Recommendations on Portland Oregon area store for boots/crampons fitting?

I'm hoping to do a Hood climb (probably guided) next spring. I've done some hill walking. I try to get a few 1000ft every weekend, and I'm often up and down Palmer. I've used microspikes a lot, ax occasionally, but I've never been anywhere with crampons. I'm always wearing pretty flexible hiking boots. This fall/winter, I want to get used to the boots I'd be wearing with crampons. It'd be a huge bonus if they'd fit AT skis. I'm looking for recommendations on places to go to get boots for this fall, maybe crampons at same time, and some advice.

South Sister, any snow fields that I should bring microspikes on?

I'm planning on a south sister hike in a few days, should I bring microspikes? Gaiters for postholing? Also, is it pretty easy to stay on the first part of the trail (from devils lake) with a headlamp for an hour before sunrise?

Camping at South Sister Trailhead/Devils Lake..

I'm planning to try to hike South Sister mid/late July. I'm coming from Portland area, hopefully get a permit for Friday South Sister hike. Can I rely on a campsite being availiable Thursday night at Devils Lake if I show up about 830 or 9pm Thursday? My alternative would be camping somewhere on the way, or perhaps even staying in a motel in Bend. I also think I'll want to stay overnight somewhere close to Bend Friday night, I don't want to drive home too trashed.

Great bags!

Just wanted to share how much I love these Bobs Red Bags for dry snacks. They're crinkly plastic, almost a tyveky feel. Seems like much better cut thru and zip repeatability than ldpe ziplocks. They're marked 7, I'm really curious what they actually are, my guess is a polyester. I've been reusing one several times for dry snack mix.

I really want to look a volcano in the eye. I would like to get clearly above some sort of venting. Without getting too close. I've got microspikes and an axe, but no formal training. I've been to illumination saddle a few times. My risk tolerance is pretty low. I turn around if the weather or snow is crappy. I feel okay on slopes of maybe 30 degrees with low consequence runouts. I'd be going early in morning, try to get up there by maybe 8 or 9AM.

I'm wondering a few things:

  1. Is there an obvious boot tracked path at this point?

  2. Are the hazards obvious and avoidable? Is there a logical turnaround point i should shoot for?

  3. Early morning, will there be enough small ice fall to want a helmet?
