Euro canyoneers who own drills… I have questions.

Which drill do you own? Do you recommend it? Which drill do you wish you owned?

How do you keep it dry? How many holes do you get per battery?

What bolt / hanger combo do you normally place? Where do you buy them?

Any specific recommendations for the other hardware: hammer, spanner…

I did my first VF rescue today!

At Roche au Dade in France. I’d finished after doing it solo, and was sitting in the shade.

This couple (no helmets) did the zip line. He got across. She then went across clipped in to her pulley just with her VF lanyards. No shorter sling.

She hit the end hanging too low to land on the ramp, bounced and slid back, until she was hanging midway across. And was hanging too low to reach the cable.

I had a rope in the car, I was able to swing one end of the rope to her from a nearby bridge and then climb across to above him and drop him the other end. Then he could pull her across.

Then he tried to tell her she should have clipped in to the pulley from a single carabiner clipped in to her harness. I intervened, but we didn’t have a common language to really explain the correct solution. Luckily they then left.

That zip was close to the car park, with guided groups around. Someone would have come to their rescue.

But I’ve done zips where she would have hung for a very long time before anyone came to help.

Belgians! What VFs can I do in your country?

I’m going to be driving though Belgium and I’m discovering that your VFs are restricted in various ways. What can I do as a passing tourist that isn’t a member of one of your clubs?

Looking for grade C/D and higher.

I need to book for Le Fond des Cris? Is that hard to do?

Is Landelies fully open access?

Les Grands Malades and Marche-les-Dames are both off-limits, right? My alpine club membership is in Austria.
