Thinking of starting CK2

As someone coming from CK3 but interested in CK2, is there anything I should know going in? Good starts, differences, necessary DLC? I’m pretty sure it’s free to play on Steam so ideally I’ll start with that version to be sure I even like it but given how obsessed I became with CK3 I feel like there’s a good chance it’ll be the same.

Endless Crusade of Doom and Despair

(For starters, apologies for the phone pics. I don’t have Reddit logged in on my laptop atm) So, this crusade for Anatolia started 33 years ago and there is seemingly no end in sight. The Catholics just keep throwing their men over and over again at a hopelessly larger, more congregated army. They refuse to fight together. After a long time of being in the negatives for war score I started taking land outside of the war target. Slowly, this seemed to bring the score back up to 0% but as soon as I hit that it ceased being effective. I don’t have enough men to handle the enemy on my own and my allies don’t follow my army or help when I get mercilessly crushed. I don’t know what to do.

Okay, so I’ve been playing this game for a while now but one thing I’ve never quite understood is how some of y’all pump out these insanely ridiculous stats on your characters. Any tips and tricks would be most welcome.
