Lady (the St Bernard) is a rescue I adopted and I'm aware very underweight. Shes been getting lots and lots of treats :)
Sweet Jane has come out of her shell so much in the past 6 weeks. She's gained a good amount of weight and absolutely loves my other Bernese Jenny (I have even caught them playing a couple times). She is still VERY unsure of me but has let me clean up her feet and nails and give her a few baths.
We have also recently unexpectedly brought in a St Bernard rescue and she loves her too. She definitely is a dog's dog and I am merely a means for food and outside time lol, which is fine by me. She will never have anyone treat her badly again and will never not have a warm spot to sleep in again
I just rescued this girl from a high kill shelter and found out she's heartworm positive. The shelter is covering her treatment fees but I'm so nervous for her. I've read up about care during treatment but she's so underweight (60 lbs, should be probably 85-100 lbs) and is also 6 years old.
We absolutely adore her and have already seen her help bring a mill mama Bernese we very recently also rescued out of her shell. I just don't want to put her through something that's gonna be more hurtful than helpful to her (heartworm treatment/cage rest/risks etc)
Pictures 1 & 2 were a few minutes ago vs the day I got her. She's doing so well!!
Jenny is the bestest sister to sweet Jane
Thank you everyone so much for all of the advice yesterday with Jane. I was able to give her some ground chicken and rice in broth in a dropper and then she ate a palmful size of chicken and quinoa by herself overnight. Jenny has been showing her how to be a dog this morning and she's already helping Jane so much with her confidence! (She even followed her outside all by herself!)
Just want to add that she doesn't wear that harness 24/7. I just put it on when I need to move her somewhere.
Adopted this sweet girl (Jane) yesterday who had lived in what sounds like an abusive puppy mill before. They were planning to shoot her and she's 2 years old.
She came to me with a massive ear infection (so had her eardrum has essentially ruptured) and fever. Since getting home yesterday she's been really shut down.
Once she finds a spot she will not move to eat drink or go to the bathroom. I had to pick her up and carry her to the car to get her to the vet today. She was so dehydrated they gave her sub Q fluids and it just absorbed right up.
She needs to take her antibiotics with food and I'm not sure how to convince her it's safe to eat.
I have given her the most high value foods you can think of. She won't touch them. My heart hurts for her and I want to give her space but I also don't want her to get sicker because she won't eat or drink. I have another Bernese who is very friendly and has been super respectful of her space. Should I keep her around more with Jane to show her it's ok?
