Is masochism linked to SH and trauma? Does someone choose to be a masochist or is it some kind of trauma response? Is there any physical change in the brain that makes someone a masochist?

Hi, I'm a highschool psychology student trying to write my IB (international bachelor) psychology Extended Essay and I need help. I have been investigating about self-destructive behaviour as a response to childhood trauma or trauma in general and I'm trying to connect that with masochism. However, most research papers didn't seem valid enough for me to present to my supervisor. I previously made a post about this topic but sadly I didn't get much help :( I just want to get a general idea between the link of SH, masochism and trauma before I send my final research question. I would also very much appreciate if there is anyone who want to recommend a book, study, documentary, etc. about this. Thank you so much for reading my post. Hope you are doing well now! :D take care of yourselves ^^ (wish me luck on my EE while passing my first year of IB without a real psychology teacher/supervisor to guide me :< )

I need information about self-destructive patterns and how early age trauma affects it for my IB Psychology Extended Essay.

Hi, I'm an IB student and I need help from psychology students or psychologists who have knowledge in trauma, SH and neurology. I would really appreciate if someone could tell me what books, websites, and resources in general would help me in my investigation. Also, here is my research question: "How do trauma-related changes in the brain contribute to the development of self-destructive behavioral patterns, including masochistic tendencies?" (if my research question is not well structure or doesn't make sense please tell me so I can change it :D) I'm really lost and don't know where to start, what to say or how to connect childhood trauma with a future masochist or how masochist even become one :( Thank you for reading this! ^^ (sorry if I didn't explain my problem very well)

PD: Any type of constructive criticism is welcome :)
