Osceola point 6”

Here’s what got me looking beyond rock picking. My uncle showed me this a few years back but until recently I’ve never really had the chance to do much hunting or even learning about it. My grandparents built a house on the Menominee river in the upper peninsula, where there is currently a damn and a spillway and a small river/creek flowing in from the east. When this point was made, the area was what I imagine a set of amazing waterfalls and encampments. When they excavated for the home in 1968 they found this point. My grandfather was a doctor and his brother in law was a geologist for the state of mi. They sent some interns down to do some digging and found a few relics but I don’t have much more information on that. They did send this letter and a couple notes but this is all I have. Thought a few of you would like to see this. I’m sure historical knowledge has been updated since 1974 so any insight would be appreciated and welcome! Thank you

Scraper?

Third time thinking I found something and didn’t lol. So found this in southeast Wisconsin in a farm field about a mile off the lake (Michigan) near a small lake and creek. Could this be a scraper. I don’t believe this stone is from this area but might be just a flake? Thanks!

Could this be a pre-form

Ok very new to keeping my eyes open for native artifacts. I found this right next another possible scraper I picked up in a southeast Wisconsin (I’ll post that one later) farm field next to a small lake. I’m a fan of chert and while always grabbing it up on the lakeshore of superior or Michigan I’ve never hunted rocks inland. This caught my eye and with some searching I wondered if it might be a pre form point. What do you think.

Cool stone maybe a tool?

Found this about knee deep on the north shore of superior. I liked the red design and tossed it on the bucket. Looking at it back home I was thinking it wouldn’t take much to shape it a tad more and I could make an amulet out of it. I looked it over a bit more and started wondering if maybe it was something at one time, axe or some other tool. What do you think? If not does anyone know a good way to smooth out the basalt on the edges so a twine could be fastened? Without making it look like it’s been altered? Thanks!!

First semi-successful tumble.

My fist rocks that turned out shiny (mostly). I pretty much made every mistake possible. I skipped the rough tumble on these as I wanted the shapes to stay the same..so I’m guessing that’s why some had a very low sheen and the others didn’t get quite to maximum shine. Took out a couple half way through the final stage as I realized they were shedding material and causing lackluster results..started final over. Purchased a separate bowl and ceramic media for final..but went from 500-raybright as I missed the note about having to run at 1200 for a couple days. Again, that didn’t help. At this point I’m happy with them but I’m wondering if going back and running them a couple days at 1200 and then doing the raybright again would make them pop even more. I’m using a raytech tumble vibe 10 and and ultrasonic cleaner in between stages for the rocks with cracks and holes. Also using borax. Most all of these are from superior, a few from Michigan and some of the fat guys from farm fields. Thanks!!

Basalt with pattern?

Found this a couple years ago on superior near little girls point after a storm and it’s my favorite rock. It was more beautiful until I tried to polish it by hand and it dulled the pattern. Some day I may be able to polish it with a cab polisher but for now, it’s still a very cool piece. Is there a name for this or is it just a piece of basalt with a pattern?
