How did Roman know that Peter was a werewolf?

I just finished watching S1.E2 (The Angel) and I noticed that it isn't shown how Roman found out Peter is a werewolf.

  1. Did I miss that between episodes 1 and 2?
  2. Are these intentional gaps in the series, conversations that happened off-screen?
  3. Does that happen in the Novel as well?
