Time Study for Pay Increase [CA]

Recently, a coworker who does similar project management work that I do is on a temporary leave. I wasn’t asked - I was told - I was going to be taking over their work in their absence.

I said I’m happy to support a team that needs me but I want to be compensated for taking on additional projects that are somewhat out of my scope.

They told me I need to complete a “time study” that shows what I’m doing every hour of everyday. This is honestly exhausting me because it’s very tedious and my workload just doubled.

My question is… is this normal? There is a very clear increase in responsibilities.

Another question: should I be asking for my increase to cover the time I was doing the time study? It’s unclear whether that would happen or not.

thank you in advance !
