Which UFA do you want?

Which of these UFAs would you want the Sens to sign, provided they sign for the predicted term and AAV?

Sens could fit any of these players with their current cap situation as per CapWages.

(For the sake of this convo, lets pretend Giroux isn’t an option)

Burakovsky 93% season at RW

Where do you think Burakovsky (just acquired for a draft pick) lines up next season?

Sens current lineup and Cap Space (17m)

This includes signing Spence for 5m, Giroux for 2.5m, Cousins for 1.5m, and Merilainen for 1.2m.

They have 7 first round picks in the next 4 years. They could afford any level of offer sheet.

What players do you expect them to acquire by July 1st?

Get Moritz Seider

If Larkin has requested a trade, the Red Wings could be poised for a re-rebuild. Will Seider really be interested in staying? Highly doubt it.

Not only is he on vacation with Stützle right now, per his instagram story, the Sens D would be arguably the best in the NHL.

The acquisition cost for Quinn Hughes was 4 1st round picks. While Seider is incredible, he’d like be worth less - I’m thinking 3 1sts + a couple extra pieces. Karlsson was traded for 6 pieces, and 2 conditional (8 possible pieces).

Thats where you see Yak and two 1sts being the big part of the deal. You’d have to add in more, and I think Halliday and Kaliyev have some nice 3rd line potential immediately next year.

Thanks for letting me enjoy this fantasy land of mine.

McTavish trade value

I’ve seen a lot of trade talk about getting Mason McTavish for a 2nd rounder, Zetterlund, and a bucket of pucks.

The market is incredibly thin, and theres likely 20+ teams out there who are trying to buy low on McTavish. Every knows he has upside of 30+ goals 70+ points. I don’t see a world where the Sens out-bid another team that is stacked with young talent. Anaheim wants players no, as their window is opening.

When using data of recent trades, CapWages trade builder came up with Pinto, 2027 1st, and Kaliyev. Theres zero chance the Sens would do that. They wouldn’t even do Pinto for McTavish 1 for 1. Pinto is far too important of a shutdown centre, which you need to win.

The Sens clearly won’t take anyone in the top 9 off their roster, so I just don’t see a fit with Anaheim for McTavish.

Most annoying 4th line?

Corey Perry is reportedly returning for another season, and Tampa isn’t looking to have him back. Would you bring him onto our fourth line? I put him down for 2m AAV, but I’d also add in performance bonuses for games played and playoff series wins.

McCarron is a mountain of a man and played well for Minny in the playoffs. He would fit the 4th line well as our C. I’d rather Halliday be used higher in the lineup as injury replacement than centring an energy line.

Nick “Chezky” Cousins is our beloved “most punchable face”. Gotta bring him back.

Obviously the top 9 can change however you want, this is just focused on the 4th line specifically!

Cozens on the wing

Here is a sample of what I think would work best for moving Cozens to the wing.

Despite people wanting to see Cozens with Stu, I think this lineup would be better overall.

I think its best to have two defensive minded lines, and two offensive minded lines. Line 1 would take all the o-zone draws and would get the easiest matchups. Line 2 and 3 would get the tougher matchups, but can still chip in offensively. The 4th line would also be sheltered for offence, taking away some o-zone draws, and helping with some neutral zone draws and starts on the fly.

Chabot-Spence *should* work great. Chabot with a healthy Jensen was great, and Spence is a better version of that similar player.

Healthy scratch on fwd would be Kaliyev if you need some offence, or one of Hodgson or Boucher. They give speed, forechecking, and can drop the gloves: something the lineup lacks on the bottom line.

Obviously I’d be shocked if we had no changes to the roster, but the skeleton is there for an even better version of last year.
