Shout out to Internal_Ability's wonderful insight!

Your post about the coffee cup rim has stuck with me. A powerful idea which upon much reflection seems so on point.

That clever, yet seemingly gratuitous, bit of fun, Forrest placed within the context of the Borders stories. Two Borders, a Double Entry spiked for emphasis. Borders may be easily thought of as a Store(trove) that CONTAINS popular information, knowlege, fiction and adventures.

The line of sight beyond/behind the Rim was what truly amused and intrigued him. It made him Wonder... And He had to enter into two Borders (Toot, Toot lol) to look for the object of his search.

I'm sorry I was too slow in replying to what you shared. After you removed your post you instigated me to go on a mini quest to find you.

My old wheels are still sturdy but spin a bit slower these days, just aging gracefully, with a song in my heart.

Warm regards and thanks so much for your meaningful contribution.

Tales of Topographic Maps

IDK the exact time-frame, but in the time around the end of the Chase, Forrest's collection of topographic maps were being offered to the public. Do we know how or to whom those maps were disposed?

Digging a bit deeper into that area stretching from the Caldera Rim Picnic Rest Spot, then through the Gibbons Falls (aka Wylie's Lunch and Permanent Campground) and past Madison Junction, then out to West Yellowstone an interesting idea emerges.

It appears that because the Yellowstone Erupted at least three times, there are several Caldera Rims: from a non-professional viewpoint I think that there are some were places where the rims overlapped and intersected with one another.

Is it possible that the Secret Creek Valley is actually what formed from the space between the BORDERS of two Caldera Rims? On GE it looks like the top of this valley ends near Purple Mountain, overlooking Madison Junction.

I think you are partly right. The new bridge abutments have encroached on what used to be wider spot. This construction narrowed the remnants of the old road as it descended to travel alongside the Gibbon.

IMO when scouring through some good old maps, which have now been put behind a paywall, it looked to me like the Old Loop road in the Gibbon Falls area, had run along the North side of the Gibbon through this area.

This route hugged the High Water Line and didn't cross the Gibbon til a good piece farther upstream.

This old road was the main pathway until they built a sturdy bridge down there, which allowed the Loop Rd to ride on the higher ground on the South Side of the Gibbon. Park managers had to change the traditional route to the higher side to engineer around frequent washouts and road closures.

For fun read about the places where WILEY camps were situated back in the day. (Near Gibbon Falls)

Forrest was very aware, that landmarks and manmade items, and some geological features will change.

But, the High Water Level alongside a Stone Cliff Face is more durable for pirates and their treasure maps.

I can't go, and I don't have the good old maps which trace the history of development in Yellowstone.

But if I did, I know I would surely explore this area.

Forrest was direct with his readers about the impact that a Bridge had on his life. From GE this Riparian Stretch along the Gibbon (a banana collector if ever there was one) could be where once upon a time a young man could go alone. As if entering a church. Carrying his Fishing kit. Treasures Bold, and finally His Indulgence.

With Forrest's extraordinary imagination, he might have seen the figure on a pedestal that I 'saw'. Maybe to him It was watching over him and his Church in the woods: Were some of his posts about mythological entities tied to this place? A solemn place, a sanctuary to immerse himself in memories, emotions and imagination. Why was Forrest sure that his Father would know the place?

Others may visit here, but it would always be his place Alone.

Even the embellishments on the Chest hinted at Elevated Figures ascending a metaphorical castle/temple.

Also interesting, perhaps Forrest consulted with his lawyer to nail down the practical Legal rules which would pertain to the traversing and ownership rights on Riparian Land.

"Maybe there is no problem"

"I know it's wet"

The photos of the recovered treasure chest really looked like it had seen some High Water; JS said it was covered in mud. Good thing it was a Heavy Load. Some clever, imaginative, creative yarn spinner may have actually thought of everything.

Just now, it feels like a good yarn, cut to pieces by those with more greed than imagination.

Maybe this will change.

God Bless Forrest.

Sadly, the "down-voter(s)" have returned. Why is it that it happens?

IDK, maybe it is an attempt to stifle the rest of us from pursuing a SECRET.

The question on the table is, what are the possible motivations for someone to down-vote on this Forum?

Sadly again, Reddit remains vulnerable to "Cancel Culture".

Version # Whatever

Follow On Loop Road:

  1. Confluence of Lemonade Creek (halts) at Obsidian Creek (Maybe a kid will have an advantage) Lemonade is still Warm because of Sofltara Creeks high temperature.

> Area of Obsidian Cliffs and Obsidian Canyon (Native American Artifacts)

> Beaver Lake and Picnic Area (Secondarily, Beavers also Halt Waters)

//// First Put-In////

  1. Museum of the National Park Ranger

> Stout-Hearted Men

>No PLACE for the meek

> Pivotal Point to Join the Gibbon

> Continue past the Porcelain Basin

//// Second Put-In////

  1. Brown Holm adjacent to Iron Springs

//// Third Put-In////

Anyway, there are a bunch more Put-Ins (putting) also with NPS Signage at each one to come, on the way to the Tuff Cliffs and the adjacent Duck Holm. It is a Marvel Gaze which depends on Heavy Loads and High Water Marks to create its image.

Forrest advised that All the Nouns were important.

IMO this was a very important admonition.

After the summary intro first stanza, I will try to list the nouns with possible clues in their order of appearance in the Poem. Excluding pronouns.

. Waters

. Canyon

. Put-in

. Home

. Place

. End

. Paddle

. Creek

. Loads

. Water

. Blaze

. Quest

. Gaze

. Chest

. Peace

IMO the last 12, truly favor that duck island location near the Tuff Cliffs.

'Marvel' Gaze:

The Duck's image is defined by a Creek, a high Water marks, and the wings are feathered using accumulated Heavy Loads.

I even "see" paddles below the Duck's body.

Props to Terrible-Safety-4051. IMO he found The Word that is key. "HOME"

I.M.O. Forrest was a brilliant man in certain regards, mainly in his use/thinking of the English language, a missing letter here, or a deleted letter there. He made his words into things he wanted them to say, [ex. knowledge vs. knowlege] His different/unpick way of thinking. As with Home, all of F's writings/talk about home/islands/meadows/ and close friends. All designed to lead someone to the word- Holm. Holm- a small island [ esp. in a river or lake]. OR-- a low-lying, flat tract f ground beside a stream. [F had told someone that they didn't know the difference between a stream and a river]. Another layer of Fenn's thinking--- the word Holmes [slang] includes his hint by using his close/dear friends. In Holmes-- an informal, effectuate term of address used like 'Dude/Bro/Man. A close friend. So we have a small island [islet] a low=lying flat ground beside a river. and a close friend. Three ways to the same meaning. Anyway this is my version of Home of Brown, a way to tie in 'below the home of brown' / no place for the meek / no paddle up your creek / just heavy loads and water high / in the wood. In my solution after where warm waters halt, you walk down and find the rest of the clues, straight-forward and simple. [half-way there].

Forrest's Fascinating Fechin Eye Detail Post

Always wondered why he made that post.

It was the Big Picture Painting juxtaposed with the magnified detail of the Subject's eye.

The detail revealed that Fechin used a handful of seemingly random elements. Yet the result was marvelous, and looked just like a beautiful eye.

Could this be significant? Could this provide some perspective about the Duck's Eye.

The Thrill of the Chase:

Was it a Riddle,

Was it a Puzzle,

Was it a Treasure Hunt,

Was it a Gift,

Was it a Game,

Was it a Message,

Was it History,

Was it Futuristic

Was it Literature,

Was it a Warning,

Was it a Lesson,

Two Omegas

This idea was generated by an earlier post\

https://earth.google.com/web/@44.64936751,-110.82946932,2081.44178953a,713.53556117d,35y,0.00070436h,60.00166248t,0r/data=CgRCAggBQgIIAEoNCP___________wEQAA

Hopefully, this link will show "everything" from the "view" tab.

The river changes name right here on many maps.

It looks like the river forms One Omega.

The perimeter of the Green Flood Plain looks like a nearly concentric Second Omega.\

This location is within a few hundred yard of the Madison Junction camping and picnic area.

For reference see the previous post.

Two Questions

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

Are these facts?

a. Forrest said that nobody gave him the correct solution for HOB.

b. Forrest said "Brown" was not a reference to trout.

Forrest's Direct HINT based on Dal's route to Santa Fe

This comes as a recollection, based on the importance Each of these guys seemed to place on this.

If someone has the verbatim quotes available to share here, that would be great. From this distance I sometimes miss the bullseye but still get close to the target.

Near the end, Dal and Forrest had a pleasant but serious exchange, after which Forrest told Dal it was okay to post this exchange on Dal's blog.

Dal sent him his route, and Forrest replied that Dal had definitely passed within a particular number of hundreds of yards of the Treasure Chest.

Dal went on to provide a very detailed account of his route. From ( not sure of this exact point) to Forrest in Santa Fe and returned on a different route.

After receiving Dal's info, I think Forrest told him he had been within ?500? yards of the chest.

If we could put Dal's route on a good map perhaps we could eliminate some of our solves by excluding those which fell beyond this restriction.

Don't want to be a kill joy but,,,,,,

It would be easier for me , and prolly many others, to keep up with the banter about this SB or that SB

if these exchanges included either/or both links to an active link, or a cut and paste containing what is being referenced.

As we stand now, it just feels like a bunch of 'inside baseball.'

Both Sides Now

Into the Mystic...

New and Old...

Forrest loved our country...

Honored our ancestors...

Protected the next generation...

In my mind, I think of Forrest as a Cultural Artist of the American School.

Artists leave their marks in a vast array of media; his memoir recognizes some of the greats.

Forrest left his mark as well. And as he pointed out, noone is perfect.

Today I listened (good) to a song from my youth which still offers me vitality in my older years.

It made me happy and sad; and I entered my realm of memories in a special way.

As I have gone alone in there, as often happens, I remember a special man.

I believe that it is a well accepted idea that an artist, or every person really, experiences moments of inspiration. Even that these inspirations flow from us, they may leap ahead of us.

A phrase I like is this: "It is like taking a breath from the future."

Can of Peas

"It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago. I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot. I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries. So the search is over. Look for more information and photos in the coming days."^([52])

^(Forrest posted this. It can still be found on Wikipedia.)

^(At least two issues come to mind:)

^(Jack has said he had to grid search for days to find the chest. That strongly contradicts 'the... poem led him to the PRECISE spot'.)

^(Where in this quote is Forrest instructing to keep the location secret?:)

^(')Look for more information and photos in the coming days.' Doesn't sound like a directive to keep things secret.

Also from wikipedia: 'In attempting to honor what he perceives to be Fenn's wishes after his death in September 2020, he has refused to reveal the location of the treasure.'

How, when, where and why did Jack perceive this to be Forrest's wishes. Or was it merely specifically the Fenn's wishes. Multiple wishes from the "FENN" family not specifically Forrest's wish.

This is not a post commenting about the merits or particulars of the New/Extended chase.

TLDR most of its details, including these recent postings.

My view is simple. 'The Thrill of the Chase' saga is unfinished.

I find that nothing new is engaging until we have an honest public accounting of how the first endeavor concluded.

Like a practical banker, I won't give a fresh investment (of my time) on this project until the first mortgage has been satisfied.

Sorry, but the account is overdrawn.
