Travelers is cancelling my first auto insurance policy because I didn't provide "documentation" I was never asked for?
Hi everyone,
I'm an international student living in Pennsylvania and I recently bought my first car (a 2016 Toyota Corolla). This is my first vehicle and my first auto insurance policy.
Today I opened the Travelers app and saw a cancellation notice. The notice says:
"We are canceling your Automobile policy because of the failure to provide the following information necessary for the acceptance or proper rating of your policy:
Documentation indicating you acquired insurance as a result of purchasing a first car and, therefore, were previously not required by law to have automobile liability insurance."
The notice was issued on July 6 and lists an effective cancellation date of July 27.
The confusing part is that I never received any email, phone call, letter, or message from Travelers or my insurance agent asking me to provide this documentation before they issued the cancellation notice.
I've already emailed the insurance agent who helped me obtain the policy, but it's the holiday weekend and I haven't heard back yet.
I bought the car through Carvana, originally insured another vehicle that I later exchanged for this Corolla, and my insurance was transferred to the Corolla. Now I've been sitting here all day going on about what this fuckery is and have got a couple question on my mind.
My questions are:
1.What document is Travelers actually asking for?
2.Is this a common underwriting requirement for first-time car owners?
3.If I provide whatever they're asking for before July 27, is it likely they'll withdraw the cancellation?
Any advice would be appreciated.
