Do you still book accommodation in the old town when you only have 2 or 3 nights in a city?

I usually like staying in neighborhoods with local restaurants and normal everyday life rather than right in the tourist center, especially when I’m traveling solo.

The problem is that on a short 2 or 3 night solo trip, I sometimes feel like I end up wasting more time on transport than I save by staying somewhere more local.

For short solo city trips, have you found it better to stay very central and just leave the tourist area for food and evenings, or stay slightly outside from the beginning?

Does anyone else get 'social burnout' from constantly meeting new people?

I've been doing the nomad thing for about 18 months now and I've noticed a weird pattern. Every time I get to a new city, I'm super hyped to hit up the local meetups and talk to everyone at the hostel or coworking space.

But after like two weeks, I just hit a wall. I'm currently in Medellin and I've stayed in my Airbnb for 2 days straight because the thought of having the 'where are you from' and 'what do you do for work' conversation one more time makes me want to scream lol.

It feels a bit lonely because I don't have my deep circle here, but I also don't have the energy to build new shallow ones. How do you guys balance wanting community with the absolute exhaustion of the first-date vibes you get with every new person?
