I’m starting my very first knitting class soon and will be making a historically accurate pineapple purse from the 1840 publication The Lady’s Assistant for Executing Useful and Fancy Designs in Knitting, Jerking and Crotcheat Work. I’m reading the supplies list and am confused by the measurements given for the needles. It says I need 4x US #00000 DPNs. I've tried asking AI and screaming into the void and can't figure it out.

I’m a crotcheater normally and am not familiar with using my brain. Can someone drop some links/ explain exactly what to buy? Do I really need 4 different hooks? It seems like I should only need 1 :/

I usually watch TV while knitting, but now I’ve watched every single show in existence and can’t possibly watch anything else ever again.

I was wondering what everyone else does to distract themselves from this godawful boring hobby that we do not enjoy a single moment of??? Please help me I fucking hate knitting

I'm fairly new to this sub but in my short time here, and after searching the sub for a bit, I've noticed a trend.

Holy shit knitters are some of the worst whiners out there.

“Wahhh beginners are asking me questions! Wahhh crocheters don't want to learn to knit! They say it's hard wahhh!”

Like holy shit y'all. I've been a part of the knitting and the crochet subs for like, over a decade at this point. Each has their respective complaints about the other so when I joined this sub I figured I'd see a variety of content. Nope! Just knitters whining to each other, primarily about beginners and gasp people who crochet exclusively.

I understand, as someone who does both, that knitting is generally a harder craft than crochet. The learning curve is higher and beginners tend to struggle and give up. Is the sense of difficulty why some of y'all feel a need to bitch endlessly? You think you've earned the right to complain about everyone else because you're really good at a difficult craft, and that makes you better than them? It's giving, pathetic, mama.

I want variety to my snark. Give me cross stitch snark, quilting snark, shit even looking snark. But noooooo instead we have 6,732 posts about people using acrylic yarn and posting twisted stitches.

I made it very clear that you should be bitching about every other craft but crochet snark is not allowed because that is my craft that I do and I am very special. Also knitting snark is not allowed because knitters are mean and I don’t like being reminded that they exist. I want this sub that I joined 5 minutes ago to be free from knitting/crochet drama posts and I WILL achieve that dream by posting dramatically about knitting/crochet.

I recently took over a small unmoderated sub that was starting to attract bot activity - I have been tracking the behaviour of these bots across many subs and identified close to 600 accounts connected to a single bot network.

Based on their behaviour I am quite certain they’re engaging in a GEO (generative engine optimization) campaign to manipulate AI search results. They make formulaic AI posts and usually edit them (hours to days later) to include a reference to one of three products they’re promoting.

The bots also have their own sub they seem to be using for vote manipulation / karma farming purposes.

I have them under control in my own sub, and have been reaching out to mods of other affected subs to discuss how to address them. But they’re active across hundreds of communities and thriving in subs with inactive mods. By the time one sub gets them under control, they’ve moved onto 5 new ones.

I have been reporting the individual accounts to reddit for spam, but this is going slowly since there are hundreds and I can report max. 10 at a time. I’ve also submitted a community report regarding their karma farming sub. So far there’s been no meaningful action from Reddit - the occasional account gets shadowbanned from user reports, but that’s all.

What can be done here? We’re playing whack-a-mole against a rising tide of AI slop…

Exhausted by “diamond artists.” My local crafting Facebook group is overrun by them, especially people selling completed diamond paintings.

I’m gonna be nice to you when I say this. Nobody wants to buy it. You are sticking plastic gems from China using toxic glue on an image that was made and designed by someone else. The image is also almost kinda ugly and cartoonish.

The amount of waste generated by such an activity? Astronomical. All of these tiny pieces of plastic rotting in a landfill. At least painting by numbers allows you to use different techniques to fill in the colors. Diamond painting is literally just sticking plastic crap on more plastic crap. And to try to profit off of it and sell it? Give me a break.

Uh oh. Here comes the “let people enjoy things” crowd. Actually, I can’t. And I won’t. You can enjoy whatever you want, and I can be a hater about it. Sorry.
