I’ve been disappointed with the hospital system here. Most decent hospitals are privatized and very costly, but even then the quality of care doesn’t always match the price. It feels like you’re paying for access, not necessarily better treatment.
Not too long ago my dad needed to be rushed to the ICU and the only hospitals with beds available were United, Evercare, BRB, and Square.
The daily rate for an ICU bed is around 1.5 lakh which is indefensible considering the quality of care. It made me sad because he wouldn’t have survived without the means. We left the hospital with a 35 lakh bill paid in full and that doesn’t include the ongoing care he now has to get. Even people who can afford private care don’t always get reliable treatment, which makes the whole system feel broken from both ends.
You still have to double-check diagnoses, question tests, and manage things yourself.
It made me wonder - how do people actually find reliable care here? Why isn’t there more accountability or standardization?
