Spent 6 months building. Got 0 users. Changed one thing and got 47 signups in a week.
Built a project management tool for freelancers. Genuinely thought it was good. Clean UI, solid features, priced fairly.
6 months. Maybe 12 signups total. Most of them me testing my own product.
I was ready to kill it.
Last thing I tried before giving up was rewriting the landing page. Not the product, not the pricing. Just the words on the front page.
Old headline: "Project management built for freelancers"
New headline: "Stop chasing clients for updates at 11pm"
47 signups in the next 7 days. Same product. Same price. Same everything.
Nobody was searching for project management software. They were searching for a way to stop feeling like they were always chasing people.
Took me 6 months to figure out that I was selling the tool instead of selling the feeling of not needing it anymore.
