A thank you to our neighbors after a traumatic experience in Hayden Tract and a request
Today around 5:45 pm my husband and I witnessed the aftermath of a terrible incident where a dog was hit by a hit and run driver who drove off without stopping on the corner of Higuera and Lucerne. The teenager who was walking the dog thankfully was unharmed but incredibly shaken up. The poor dog passed away shortly after the accident but myself and a few other women helped to comfort the dog and pet her until she left this world (I called the emergency vet and sadly by the time I got instructions of what I could do, the pup had passed).
Not surprisingly the community really came out to help and try to see what was going on and to help. With cameras from their houses and dash cams from their cars. At some point I looked up to see about 10 people gathered around asking how they could help. It was a traumatic and horrific incident but really showed the good in humanity (besides the asshole that drove off).
My question is - this intersection is incredibly dangerous. I have seen people roll through this very active street as they try to avoid traffic on national and it can’t be the first time something bad has happened here. Is there any hope in getting a light up instead of an all way stop sign? There are so many young families around this area and it just feels incredibly unsafe especially during peak commuting hours.
Thanks in advance. If by any chance you were the young man walking Bailey and are reading this - I am so sorry for your family’s loss. You did everything right and what happened wasn’t your fault. I wish I could have done more for you and her.
