Periodontal disease with severe bone loss—help!
Due to neglecting my oral health, I developed periodontitis, which resulted in severe bone loss and the loss of a tooth (lower right molar).
Six months ago, I underwent scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) in all four quadrants, and I had a dental splint fitted to stabilize my teeth.
Since then, I've developed the following oral hygiene routine:
Every morning when I wake up: I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush, floss, and use interdental brushes.
Immediately after eating: I use a water flosser, brush my teeth, floss, and use interdental brushes.
Lumoral: I use Lumoral, which combines blue and infrared light with a photosensitive mouth rinse. When activated, it generates heat and reactive oxygen species to reduce bacteria in dental plaque and help control periodontal inflammation, as a complement to brushing.
Last week, I went back for a check-up, and my dentist told me that my gums were in perfect condition and that I didn't need any further deep cleaning.
HOWEVER, here's what really shocked me...
My dentist told me that there was nothing else that could be done and that getting a bone graft wouldn't be worth it because it wouldn't achieve anything.
My goal is to restore the appearance of my teeth and have a healthy, natural-looking smile.
Is this really true? Is there no way to perform a bone graft or any other procedure to recover at least some of the lost bone?
The tooth marked in red has severe mobility.
- I don't have diabetes.
- The bone loss is due exclusively to my neglect of hygiene.
- I don't smoke.
As I mentioned, my goal is to restore both the aesthetics and the health of my teeth and gums.
Ideally, I would like to explore every possible treatment option, such as:
- Bone grafting or periodontal regeneration to recover some of the lost bone.
- Gum grafting or periodontal plastic surgery to restore the appearance of my gums.
- Orthodontic treatment to straighten my teeth and improve my smile.
- Any other procedures that could help me achieve the best possible functional and aesthetic result.
What should I do? What treatment options do I have?
Thank you very much for your help.
