Aptitude test

So I have been studying for my upcoming aptitude test, I’m in Indiana. I’m 30 so it’s been a while since doing any math and I bought a practice exam to study from electric prep. I am definitely not asking what type of questions are on it, but just wanting some advice on the overall skill level needed in math to be able pass. I forgot how to even do long division so it refreshed me on that and I have always had a pretty high IQ so I do remember how to do basic equations and stuff as it’s pretty much common sense. With knowing multiplication and long division, and having a basic understanding of algebra how do you guys think my chances are?

Advice for a new electrician

So I start with a non union company for my apprenticeship on Monday , but my aptitude test for union is on 7/1. So I figure interview will be semi-shortly after and maybe mid to late July, if I pass, I would have an opportunity to join the union. I’m in Indiana and so the non union company is paying $20 an hour with no pension but they do have benefits. My understanding of the union is that the pay/benefits is much better and when topped out at a journeyman it’s like $10-$15 more, plus aforementioned pension.

I have no experience in the field but I have been studying and when I commit myself to something, I’m usually pretty good at it. I was in my last career anyway, as a personal trainer. However I really need a job right now with a kid on the way and paying rent and car. That’s why I can’t wait until next month to get in somewhere, and I feel like the union isn’t a sure thing anyway with all the testing and interviews.

The thing is I don’t want to burn my bridge at this non union company by leaving 2 months in, in case union doesn’t work out. However my understanding of the pay, I definitely should. Talked to a guy today who works union and he said that your job is pretty safe with the union. Any tips or advice from guys who have been doing this, things you’ve done, or things you wish you would have done are welcome. Thanks. Btw I am in a big city so I feel like chances at the union are pretty good it’s not a backwater town and my buddy in the union says lot of jobs right now.
