Sorry if this has already been answered in some other Fate material, but wouldn't there be some mages who will actively impede the progress of science to slow the weakening of Mystery?

So if Mystery is needed for magecraft to be effective, and the progress of science reduces Mystery, then shouldn't a group of people that are as morally corrupt as Mages attempt to do whatever they can to impede science? Like actively encouraging superstition, eliminating scientists, making public distrustful of science, etc.

The "Food Shortage" Problem in Unstable Is Frankly Kinda Weird

So obviously if this was just normal Minecraft food shortage would not be existent since it is infinitely reproduceable and can be grown rather quickly.

But for the purposes of creating tension, the story makes it canon the the shenanigans of the Mafia and the LAW has effectively drained a lot of resources from the playerbase, which not includes netherite armor but also food apparently. This leads to stuff like chickens being treated as valuable items, and (supposedly) old players starving to death.

But... like it's kinda hard for me to suspend my belief about this? Like I get that the story wants us to accept it for the purpose of creating an interesting plot, but Parrot can just turn around and create massive chicken farms (which by the next few episodes isn't enough apparently since bandits exist) and Shoebilly apparently decided that trashing 24 squares of tilled dirt was necessary to prevent Parrot and Theo from restocking their food supplies. The story simultaneously wants us to believe an abridged version of minecraft where food is a concern, but still follows minecraft food mechanics which say this shouldn't be an issue. It's kinda hard for me to give any sympathy to Cindercrest who moan and complain about food shortages but then give thousands of diamonds to Clownpierce so that they can kill people

I never really thought of Parrot as a "good person" because he came off as more self-righteous in previous videos than anything. But some of these takes as a result of the latest video feel questionable:

  1. Claim: Parrot isn't interested in the wellbeing of his people, he just wants to get rid of his enemies

If that was true, all Parrot would need to do is allow Cindercrest to spawn withers and kill new players in Spawn again, and their greviance with Parrot would go away. The reason why Parrot is fighting Cindercrest in the first place is because they are actively going out of their way to kill new players. Yes, the video started because Parrot learned about the invasion, but the whole issue with the new players is what caused the invasion to begin with.

This is why Parrot is killing and doing these actions in the video. It's not because he wants to maintain absolute power. The video tells us over and over again that it is because he wants to stop the murder of new players.

  1. Claim: Parrot kidnapping DanchoGold is a sign Parrot has gone power hungry

Yes kidnapping is bad. Yes deposing other rulers is bad. Yes not paying your debt is bad. Yes attempting to coerce other players is bad. However, again Parrot has a bigger issue than the prosperity of Merchant City. If Cindercrest wins, they are killing a large number of innocent players that aren't part of any army. Regardless of whether Parrot is king or not, Parrot would do the same action of kidnapping DanchoGold if it meant saving the lives of the new players (that Parrot is legally responsible for). Parrot is dealing with a massive crisis, he has no choice but to do whatever is necessary to defeat Cindercrest. Do not get me wrong, the temporary arrest and drafting of the merchant city soldiers is evil, but it would be more morally sus if Parrot didn't use every chance he had to resist Cindercrest.

  1. Claim: Parrot killing the Law members was unnecessary.

I do think it is a bad thing, but Parrot's actions were pragmatic. To be clear, the Law members didn't even have to join Parrot, they could run away without joining either side. Additionally, there was nothing else Parrot could reason with them with. They heard what Cindercrest's agenda was, were told that if they stayed with Law Parrot would interpret that as them joining Cindercrest, and they chose to stay, meaning that they didn't have a moral qualm with killing new players. They were even told that many of their ranks would be killed by Cindercrest, and they still didn't care. They had absolutely every intention to work with Cindercrest (who would actually use them, since Cindercrest already uses new players as slaves, so they have no issue with using Law as shock troops) and so Parrot just had to decide between fighting them now, or fighting them later with the entirety of Cindercrest's army. Obviously, the pragmatic action would be to fight the Law soldiers now.

  1. Claim: Current Parrot mirrors LettuceK

The reason why LettuceK was bad was because he was acting when there was no need to. The server had no significant problems at the time, but LettuceK saw the need to sacrifice a 1000 players (he had the intention to sacrifice them, where Parrot is legitimately trying to win), and then start oppressing groups for what might happen. Parrot right now is facing an actual crisis where player's lives are on the stake. Here Parrot is not attempting to unnecessarily grab power, he is doing what is necessary to defeat Cindercrest.

  1. Conclusion: What Parrot did was bad, but it was not the result of him going power-hungry, but legitimately what the situation called for.
