"Its stinky, Mario"

I can't remember which video this was from, but it was basically a bit that Hunter made about Luigi getting cucked by Mario and Peach or something and Nik added the line "it stinky Mario :( " and I thought it was the funniest thing ever.

I've been window shopping rooms for rent in my area on SpareRoom since I'm a student looking to move out in the fall. I saw a listing that seemed perfect for me since it was a good distance from both my work and school, so I reached out to the landlord. Now I'm getting suspicious that this person is a scammer.

They started out asking for my number so we could communicate privately which I was fine with, but the area code was for a completely different state (NY, not CA). Whatever, people move, no problem. They wanted to verify my credit score which I know is common practice, so I wasn't worried about that, but then they immediately started asking for a "holding fee"?? Mind you, I haven't even seen the place in-person yet or even just called/met up with this person, I was just inquiring about the listing, so there's no reason to reserve this room for me or anything, especially since I'm not even trying to move in immediately.

I'm less than satisfied with the response I've gotten from them so far. I do know that SpareRoom is still vulnerable to scam listings so I'm trying to be extra careful. I looked into the listing photos and they don't seem to be snagged from some other existing residence from what I've found, but the communication is what's concerning to me. Am I being paranoid or is this really shady??
