What kind of doctor fills your meds?
In the US it seems like only psychiatrists and not sleep doctors… my sleep doctor only deals with my sleep apnea

As I reflect on what good, bad, and the ugly of the spring semester, I really question the purposes of lectures.
I am still a bit baffled that students think they are actually going to learn all the material in a 4 hours of meeting with them throughout the week. I can see that they are not doing in the reading in canvas.
Which then made me think of lectures....
I know I can google all of this, but I would rather have communication with peers.
At what point does a lecture or class time really look like the following:
-A non-denominational church service where it is full of rock music and a weekly thought assignment / good story. I've actually thought of creating worksheets for each week which becomes part of their materials for class.
-A Ted talk. While ted talks are pretty brief, they can be effective in provoking thought, but an extended version for class, where the students are left in awe and pondering deep thoughts
-A speech...
-A webinar. I've been watching some vendor provided training videos on stuff related to what I teach
-A demo
I do have at least one day of the week where they have some form of an in class activity to mix it up, but still, i need to set the expectations early so I can lessen the "I had to learn on my own, they didn't teach anything in class...." I'm so tired of that phrase. This isn't high school. I give HS teachers alot of credit, I don't think I could do it, but isn't that where they are suppose to learn how to learn? Or has that been removed from the books as well?
I am so excited to put on my out of office auto replies for students! I know for sure I will have a blurb about questing grades. I want to have a kind of a FAQ kind of response. I have been known to miscalculate a complicated students once or twice but for the most part I don't have errors in grading. But seems like the students think i do, because they are shocked they have a D when their effort was also a D but in their minds it was A work.
Any other fun or helpful blurbs to put in the end of summer out of office message?
