Do you use gelatin/agar agar to print on paper?

The person who taught me cyanotyping and sold me my first kit preps their paper by submerging it in hot water with dissolved gelatin. I know that this is absolutely necessary for printing on glass, ceramic, etc. and I guess that for paper probably it does help give more sticking power. But I tried printing without it and couldn't see a difference. I think time will tell, maybe it will help prevent fading? Anyways, now that it's part of my process and I'm getting good results, I probably won't stop doing it. Just curious if anyone else does this because it doesn't seem like a standard part of the process for printing on paper.
