27F - Should I pursue a PhD in 2027, or am I setting myself up for another difficult chapter?

27F - Should I pursue a PhD in 2027, or am I setting myself up for another difficult chapter?

TL;DR: I'm 27F, currently in India, and trying to decide whether to pursue a PhD in 2027. I've always wanted to teach and return to academia, but after studying in the US on a scholarship, losing my expected return offer due to visa-related constraints, struggling financially through 2025, and experiencing an exploitative work arrangement after returning to India, I'm exhausted and have little savings to fall back on. Despite working hard and trying to do things the right way, things haven't worked out as I'd hoped. I'm close to my family, but readjusting to India after three years abroad has been difficult, and I'm afraid of starting over only to face another setback. Astrologically, does 2027 look favourable for pursuing a PhD or making another major career transition?

Hi, astrology enthusiasts!

I'm a 27-year-old woman going through a pretty rough transition in life, and I'd love to hear your perspectives.

I've always wanted to teach and eventually return to academia. In 2023, I was a research assistant in graduate school in the US. I had a scholarship, worked incredibly hard to pay my bills and fees, and genuinely believed I was building towards something meaningful. I couldn't really enjoy or experience the city as much as many of my peers did because I was so focused on making things work.

Then, in Q3 2024, corporate reality hit. My return offer never materialized because of visa and other legal constraints that I hadn't been made aware of. My manager, who had been very supportive, suddenly went quiet, even though I'd been transparent throughout the process. The C-suite had wanted to retain me, which made the whole situation even harder to process.

2025 was a complete shitshow. I kept pushing through, applying for jobs and trying to manage the financial burden of my time abroad. After returning to India, I landed a short, high-paying stint, only for the arrangement to change to an equity-based role. I ended up working even harder without receiving the compensation I'd expected. Recently, I also worked on an interior design project, which felt like reconnecting with my roots in architecture.

Throughout all this, I've watched friends put in a fraction of the effort and seem to receive opportunities and rewards ten times over. I know everyone's journey is different, but it's exhausting to feel like I have to work so much harder just to get to a place where others seem to arrive effortlessly. Even being straightforward and doing things the right way hasn't always worked in my favour.

Now I'm at a crossroads. My original plan was to save some money, regain financial stability, and then return to academia. But I haven't managed to build any savings, and I'm questioning whether pursuing a PhD in 2027 is a wise decision.

I don't have a partner or children to factor into the decision, and I'm very close to my family. However, readjusting to life in India after three years abroad has already been difficult. The thought of starting over again, potentially facing another major setback, and having to rebuild my life all over again is genuinely frightening.

For those of you who follow astrology, what would you look at to understand whether 2027 might be a favourable time for a PhD, higher education, or a career transition? I'm also wondering whether my experiences point towards a longer period of instability or whether I'm simply going through a difficult transition before finding my footing.

I'd appreciate honest perspectives. I'm not necessarily looking for someone to tell me everything will work out; I'd like some clarity about how to think about this next chapter.

Demo of my pixel/bead/cross-stitch artwork plugin

Hi everyone! This is the demo of my Figma plugin. I recently updated its UI to adapt to Figma's environment, as that becomes easier to adopt for those who prefer their workflow be within Figma when it comes to sprite creations for their designs! The purpose is that current plugins usually do not provide layers, symmetry or color libraries for consistent UI. This one adjusts to your frame, let's you decide the cell size so the scale of multiple assets remains cohesive and uniform and can let you import your color styles as well. There's also cell shapes that you can use for more stylized work.

I built a pixel art plugin in Figma, looking for feedback

Built a pixel art painting plugin for Figma because clicking one cell at a time was making me lose my mind. The plugin is still rough around the edges but the core functionalities work.

I make portfolio covers and illustration assets directly in Figma, and for a while, I was doing pixel art the painful way, selecting each cell rectangle, opening the fill panel, picking a color, and moving to the next cell. One sprite could be 150+ interactions before anything looked like anything.

I tried a few existing plugins, but they did not fit my use case. Additionally, I wanted more flexibility when it comes to frames, canvas, brand colors, symmetry, and using references.

So I built one that lets you actually drag-paint. The painting surface lives inside the plugin window (HTML canvas), and when you're done, you hit Apply, and it writes back to Figma as named rectangles. No leaving Figma, no separate app, you can apply to your frame, export as SVGs and also flatten it.

It has:

  • Pen, eraser, fill bucket, rect, oval, magic wand select
  • H / V / 4-way symmetry
  • HSB color picker + Figma library colors + custom palette
  • Reference image overlay (drag to move, resize, opacity slider)
  • Undo/redo, zoom/pan, cell shape presets (square → circle for bead like designs)
  • Import colors from existing libraries to maintain brand consistency

It's called Pixel Painter Studio and it's on the Figma Community now. I will further polish this once I hear what everyone who uses it has to say.

I'm looking for people to actually use it and break it, especially anyone doing sprite work, pattern design, or icon illustration. If something feels off or missing, I want to know. Drop a comment or DM me.
