Flying 3 weeks post op in hard cast. Bad idea?

Had a trip planned before I ruptured. Flight has a connection so 2 hours to connecting flight then 2.5 to destination. In a hard cast (I posted a pic of the cast yesterday).

Doc said it was doable but not without risk. If the swelling gets too bad I’d have to go to the ER and bi-valve. He prescribed lovenox to prevent clots. Main concern is being in the air and having unbearable pressure in this cast with no give.

I bought a first class ticket so I’ll have room to move and elevate it some.

Has anyone done this before?
Am I foolish for wanting to try?

2 weeks post op. Hard cast for 4 more??

Ruptured about a month ago playing basketball. Had surgery 2 weeks ago and got moved from the surgical splint to a hard cast this week. My doc says I’ll be in the hard cast for 4 weeks! I trust my surgeon as he came highly recommended by many people and doctors but this rehab protocol feels a little excessive compared to everything else I’ve seen. Seems like a lot of people just skip the hard cast all together and go to the boot a couple weeks post op. Thoughts?

I’m 29M and just want to get going on PT. Worried that spending this much time in a cast is doing more harm than good in terms of my calf/leg atrophying. Plus this thing is annoying af in the middle of summer when it’s 95 degrees outside.

Blew up my Achilles

Hey all, 29M this past Sunday I was playing pick up basketball. Pretty competitive 5v5 runs. I played 2 games, sat one out then went back in. I was feeling great jumping well and had more burst and energy than normal.

A shot went up I jumped up to grab the rebound and just as soon as I pushed off my right foot to turn and go up court to push the break.. BANG. It felt like someone kicked me in the back of the leg and I fell to the ground landing on my right hip. There was someone behind me but I don’t think they touched me at all.

I knew within seconds what had just happened and all that comes with it. As someone who watches and plays a lot of sports my mind immediately started racing about how I’ll be lucky to play full speed again in under a year, that rehab is going to be brutal and how much strength I’m going to lose.

My search for ways to stay active, not get fat and maintain muscle is what brought me here. I’m 6’4” 190lb and I know I need to just eat at or under my TDEE and I won’t gain weight but fuck that’s hard sometimes. I was super active, getting 15k steps/day lifting 4 times a week and playing ball once a week trying to get a little leaner for summer. Now I’m on my ass and can’t even get up to piss without crutches.

Looking for any diet hacks and tricks to cut out the binge eating when bored and good workouts you all found that helped you stay sane.

I also spend a lot of time by myself which I’m normally okay with but now that’s just going to be amplified even more without sports.
Recs for hobbies or groups y’all like to get out and socialize that doesn’t require a lot of activity I’m all ears.

I’ve had surgeries and injuries before. I know it’s a long road to recovery but I’m confident I’ll get through it. Going in for PARS surgery on Wednesday. Best of luck to anyone out there going through the same thing we got this.
