Hi everyone, I’m an Italian undergrad student in Biology, for long I have wanted to go into medical research, but I am starting to realize that I’d be way happier working with plants and the environment, I was mostly interested in the medical field for stability and pressure from my family. I am thinking of studying plant biology and then phytoremediation and/or biomaterials, mostly with fungi and algae, but also plants, is it realistic? Is there actual funding for this kind of research in Europe? I’ve also been diving for years and if I can I would love to dive for research as well! Thanks in advance!

I am currently getting my bachelors here in Italy and I have always planned to go abroad after getting my degree. I have studied a bit of Finnish in high school for fun, but also because I have always considered it an option for my studies and, if I’ll be able to, also for work and to build my life there. I have found a master’s program that I love in Turku, but my mother is worried the cultural differences between Finland and Italy would be too much to handle for me.

I wouldn’t consider myself overly friendly or expressive, and that made it impossible for me to socialise in my hometown, but I’m still kind of an extrovert, I have found many friends in university and I do suffer loneliness, so I am also afraid of not being able to find any friends in Finland. I don’t know if it’s just stereotypes but many Italians think it’s almost impossible to socialise in Northern Europe.

I fear it would be especially difficult because I look very Mediterranean as well, in Italy if you don’t "fit in" (either because of looks or fashion choices) it could be extremely hard to socialise, is it in Finland as well? Of course I will also start studying Finnish again as soon as possible, my university has courses and I think I’ll try to do it more seriously this time :)

Also, I am vegan and while in Italy it’s very easy for me, I really don’t know about Finland (although my diet is very simple, in winter I can eat only beans and cabbage for days if not weeks…)?

I am a lever harp player but I mostly listen to emo/screamo music, does anyone know any songs or bands that also use the harp?

I have also been considering to start singing in a band again lately and it would be so cool to be able to play the harp as well!
