Failing the real estate licensing exam is rarely about the material — it's about the method. What worked for you?
I'm currently preparing for the real estate licensing exam and I'm starting to realize the way most people study is completely backwards.
Right now I read the textbook in the evening, highlight, and review my notes. But I've noticed something: I "recognize" the material when I re-read it, but I'm not sure it would come out on exam day. There's nothing to recognize during an exam — it has to come out on its own.
I've been reading that pass rates are lower than people expect, and most failures come from candidates who relied only on passive reading. I recently switched to doing practice questions and timed simulations and I can already feel the difference. Way less comfortable, but way more honest about what I actually know.
For those of you who already passed:
- Did you rely on reading alone, or did you drill practice questions?
- How many practice exams did you do before the real thing?
- What single thing made the biggest difference for you?
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!
