Tight quarters and big eats.
Stoked to get my first brown. Only a few streams in SoCal hold them so I had to venture a little further than normal, but so worth it. Beautiful fish!

Today’s goal: catch a SoCal brown. Mission f*cking accomplished. I lost count after 10.
Unexpected bonus: a personal best blue line rainbow.
Trying to explore a certain creek for the first time. Website says to call the ranger station to check status but they’re only open weekends and I’m looking to head up that way on Friday.
Thanks!
Hey folks, looking for a little guidance in regards to a training plan for a BQ attempt in about 15 weeks.
Background: been a pretty consistent endurance athlete for the past 15 years or so. A few 140.6’s that led to a some standalone marathons(including two Bostons) and shorter distance road races and then a string of 40 or so trail ultras including a few hundred milers.
3 or 4 years ago I eased off the training and racing, but last year when I turned 50 I decided I missed being fit and have spent the last year and a half just running for the sake of running. Not much racing other than a 1/2 last fall where I went 1:32 and a recent best 5k of 19:30. I’ve maintained a run streak of 500+ days and averaged 50mpw up until this past April where I’ve been consistently hitting 60mpw. My long term goal is to be in 1:45 half shape at any given time. I run a minimum of 7 miles every day, but some of those are walks on my treadmill at 12 minute pace (these are my recovery days). Most Sundays or mondays I run 13.1 and my most recent from last night was a medium hard 1:39 effort. Ran a moderate effort 17 miler a month ago at 7:40 avg pace.
My goal for an October marathon is a 3:10-3:15 as my BQ is 3:20.
I’ve never once followed a training plan, but I think I’d like to follow one this summer to help keep me on track. My only caveat is that I maintain my streak of no days off. Any suggestions/recommendations for a solid training plan considering my age, experience and current volume? I tried using Claude.ai and it spat out a plan that seems okay, but I’d rather trust the reddit hivemind instead, lol.
Thanks!
Yesterday I decided to explore a stretch of the local river that I’ve always been curious about but never made the effort to explore cause it seemed like it might be a pain to get down to. Well worth the 11 miles and scrambling over river rock that desperately wanted to roll my ankles…some of the prettiest water I’ve seen so far.
Beautiful day in the backcountry, and quite a few hungry fish.
