Can we be friends the old-fashioned way?

I’m looking for a friend. Just a friend.

I don’t really need someone to text all day.

Someone to exchange random pictures with—not the Instagram-worthy ones, but the “look at this oddly shaped cloud,” “I made good tea today,” or “sunset from my corner of the world!!” kind of moments that somehow make up a life.

Someone to talk about how the day went, celebrate tiny wins, random rants, share things we’re learning, and maybe keep each other on track with our goals..We don’t have to talk 24/7. Just… be present in each other’s everyday lives.

Strictly not looking for romance. Just genuine, light-hearted friendship with someone who enjoys the little things. I just miss having someone to share the tiny, ordinary moments with.

No pressure to reply instantly. No expectations to be entertaining all the time. Just a comfortable, wholesome friendship.

I could tell you more about myself here… but I think people are much more interesting in conversation. If this sounds like your kind of friendship, you know where to find me 🦋

What’s a weird thing that instantly makes you feel safe?

Mine is hearing my family existing in the background.

My mom talking to her sister on the phone while doing three other things at the same time. My dad opening and closing random cupboards for reasons only he understands. My sister putting away dishes in the middle of the day. Our house help wiping down the cooking range. My nani quietly reading Quran in her room. My nieces watching Bluey for the 147th time. Our neighbour’s pressure cooker whistling and the faint smell of food being prepared comes with the breeze.

Someone asks where the scissors are. Someone says “check the drawer” without specifying which drawer. A door opens. The washing machine beeps. A chair being moved across the floor.

None of it has anything to do with me.

But for some reason, hearing all those ordinary little sounds makes me feel safe.

It’s like the background soundtrack of people I love living their lives.

Am I the only one fascinated by completely mundane things?

I have a soft spot for ordinary things.

Not in a poetic way. In a genuinely curious way.

Why some mugs become favorites.

Why certain places of the same house feel different from others. Even the same room feels different at 3pm and 11pm!

Why I still remember strangers I’ll never meet again.

Why some completely insignificant objects survive every attempt to declutter.

Surely I’m not the only one.

What’s something completely ordinary that fascinates you for no good reason?
