Paying contractors travel time

For you guys that have regular contractors, how do you pay for travel time?

The current set up I pay them: first 30 minutes count as a typical commute on them, start paying their hourly rate after that and up until they finish for the day (sometimes multiple jobs per day). Same thing applies to their trip home, if over 30 minutes, they’re paid on hourly.

On top of that, pay .89c per km travelled overall that day to cover fuel and other car costs.

Is this typical or am I doing something stupid?
