NWB for six weeks - unsure about surgeon
I shattered my shoulder very badly 9 1/2 months ago, as a result of turning my ankle on steps with no handrail. My shoulder likely needs a total replacement, but I've said no to that for now, since I am 55 and not quite old enough to deal with repeated replacements. But. My ankle had an avulsion fracture and sprain, and will not heal, and walking is extremely difficult. I talked to two doctors, who had different opinions, but the one who has the best qualifications says she will remove the little broken bone piece, and then she'll look at my tendon and most likely snip off the damaged piece. My nurse friend worked with this surgeon and says she is amazing, but... the whole appt was bizarre and the doctor walked in saying "this is all nothing. why are you here?" when I had an MRI with literally 6 different points saying there were issues. She said "you don't even need a brace". I'm totally willing to overlook all of this to get the best care, but the recovery period is 6 months, and I just... don't know.
She wanted me to choose whether to get surgery, so I finally said yes, and then she backed me up and said I've done everything right, and it makes sense to get surgery. I do think she is extremely well-qualified, and this is just a personality thing, but I did not expect to have to make the decision whether to get surgery. I have a bone that won't become a "union", apparently a possible tendon rip, and lots of edema. The surgeon said it's all basically "nothing". I'm glad it's not complicated, but... I've been in pain for nearly 10 months, and cannot do stairs normally. I just don't know? My podiatrist was sooo nice, and drew me diagrams of what was going on. The orthopedic surgeon said "I don't care about the lesion. It doesn't matter". I'll have to be NWB for six weeks for treatment for what she said is "nothing", which really gets to me. Are surgeons who are the best of the best often dismissive like this?
