Found a good one today!

I’ve been digging through and cleaning out my storage lately and finding unique gem after gem , thought this might be a good place to share my find. Notice the track listing from this Now or Never Records promo sampler, includes “Sugar Coated Sour” BUT ALSO “Monticello” from their very just EP (Pre-Relapse), not sure how many people have actually heard those tracks so I was excited to dig this up.

BUT ALSO: All Else Failed? Dragbody? Who still rembers both of those incredible bands?Dragbody from Florida were under the radar KILLERS, and I’ve never seen a more entertaining band live than each and every time I saw All Else Failed, from bashing each other straight to the dome with their instruments to graduating to full on Alice Cooper-like theatrics installation with a mock public hanging at the end of their set. I had completely forgotten about them until now, and can’t shake those existences now even if I tried. Real artists.

Anyone else have this? Or have heard the first Dillinger record? Or enjoyed Dragbody and All Else Failed as much as I did?

I can’t be alone on this one.

Lookie what I found in storage today...

I have been cleaning out my storage now for weeks and come across a number of gems. This one I didn't even realize I ever had and evidently I've never even played since I bought it in 1997 because it is still in the plastic. Not having ever listened to (or even opened) this is a crime, and I should be publicly shamed for it, and worse yet, I don't even have a CD player anymore, so I probably never will.

Does anyone know if these recordings are available anywhere to stream currently? I'd love a chance to hear these recordings now.

PS. Just look at these old school other 90s legends on this one! Endeavor (w/ Mike Olender from before forming Burnt By the Sun), real old Coalesce, Disembodied (one of my favorites and a super underrated band that were of Ferret Records back then).

Long time ATG fan here, and was greatly anticipating the new record. I’ve only listened to it 2 or 3 times through so far and enjoy it a lot. However, there is something so moving and sad throughout the whole album. I’m sure some of that comes from the circumstances around the band and how the album was made. Tompa’s vocals still hit but they come with such a heavier weight when I hear them now. I’m glad the band was able to utilize his vocals from pre-production demos so we get one last ride with one of the greatest frontmen our scene has ever had. Maybe it’s the circumstances surrounding his condition and his untimely death, I know it hit me hard as it did many of you, but when I hear his voice on this record I can hear the pain and strain in it more than usual. It makes sense considering what he was fighting through bravely and I’m sure the less produced quality from demos may affect it to some degree, but it cracks and is raw and even struggles at times to me. It makes what he was suffering through come through even more. The hurt is in his voice. Not a criticism at all, just an observation. I miss him greatly. And for a man facing down his imminent end maybe that strained style is truly appropriate. It carries emotion and desperation and fight within its delivery. In a strange way it reminds me how someone like Johnny Cash’s voice and delivery changed near his end, and because of that, songs like his own cover of “Hurt” is all that more moving, because you feel the ache and desperation in his voice. It adds an element to the music that makes it soooo much more emotional, beautiful and sad. True artistic passion and expression. I feel that same vibe from our last run with Tompa. I’m so grateful this record was able to be made in the face of so many challenges. What a way to go out. You left us with something unique, beautiful and real. No effects could have reproduced that kind of pain, it’s something that must be lived. I’ll spend the next few days pouring over the lyrics to really absorb the messages he was feeling and sharing with us up to the end. Knowing him, I’m sure it strikes on an even deeper and even more intellectual level that embodied the man himself.

This is all to say, thank you Tompa. Thank you At The Gates, and may he rest in power as his ultimate art now lives on forever. I’m grateful for this painful goodbye.

Please share any feelings that the new record brings up for you and of course as always Hail Tompa, forever!
