First Draft: A Serious Attempt at Cozy Living

Here’s some pics of the initial setup of my place. Still thinking about a pet, plants, and the benefits of non-living, organic looking aspects. Already got the plastic flowers from DAISO for the day I moved in.

I have a major, hereditary messiness problem. Not neurodivergent but definitely distract-able and prone to racing thoughts. Tips for folx such as to keep the place looking a bit less chaotic? (NOT PICTURED 😂)

A War of two Eras of Animalic, Aldehydic Florals— Chanel and Amouage

At the moment I am testing these for comparison to enjoy my Thursday evening. These two differ a lot, but less than No. 5 and Arpège, which I feel are the dialectic of this fragrance class.

Amouage Cristal Gold Woman (1980?) is a bright, crisp, fresh, and accurate floral. The aldehydes enhance the fresh damask rose and softer indolics. It is quite similar to Joy— to the point of them seeming replaceable. Both of them have longevity issues (even extrait Joy), both smell like actual flowers, and they feature rose above any other floral. However, the base of Joy is a bit fuzzy sometimes whereas the Amouage has a plush, soft musky base without intense animalics, spice, or earthiness— it feels bright and pure.

Chanel No. 5 extrait (pre-1970): the intensity of the aldehydes and top notes mixed with the hearty florals is like a flashbang of the best quality. The top notes are soapy, creamy, fleshy, and are accompanied by a decent dose of civet— which is NOT intrusive. The heart is pure joy and the Lilial is detectable and I mourn its use. However, rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, and lily dance together in rich embrace by aldehydes and rich sandalwood. The base had a Lilial whisper with a kind musk and beautiful sandalwood.

Woody florals for the win!

Anyone else have thoughts on the balance between aldehydes and florals— where is the line. Should you be able to smell each floral note or smell a smear of pollen and petals?!

WE’RE SO BACK!

Hello my lovely noses— welcome to the new (and improving) r/vintageperfume! A couples of things to review for everyone so we have a consensus:

  1. Read the rules and community info before you post or comment anything please. We prefer not to delete, restrict, ban, etc. We want to keep the beautiful community culture established by previous mods/users and grow as more noses sniff us out!

  2. Our Mod team is: u/Scent_Insensibility, u/Foreign-Kangaroo-681, and myself— u/cmewiththemhandz. Please do not be afraid to message us with ideas, commentary about the sub, and any concerns.

  3. PLEASE DO report anything that violates our rules. If you are unsure, do not worry, we can just approve it if it is allowed or comment on the comment or post :)

  4. Continue to post and comment and be active here! We really enjoy talking about our collections, opinions, white whales, tall tales, and anything vintage. Vintage could be defined as pre-2003 oakmoss ban, 20+ years old, and NOT anything with an ingredient list with allergens, unless it was released prior to 20+ years ago. u/Scent_Insensibility made the point that basically the 20th (and the tail end of the 19th) century are where vintage and the vintage spirit lives. Niche began trickling in ~1990 and shook up the art form, and we tend to just talk about the classics or the tradition of French perfumery. That means perfumes made with traditional structures, natural AND synthetic components, and a the je ne sais quoi of fragrances of years past.

  5. NO “grandma smell” type comments please. If something reminds you of your grandma please do share. Grandma is not an adjective, it’s a noun. We do not agree with or align ourselves with the values and culture of some…other spaces. Please understand that ageism is bidirectional and therefore affects everyone. Rule #1 talks about this. I think you all are smart enough to intuit what it encompasses BUT if you have questions ask the mods!

So happy to be teamed up with Scent and Kangaroo and forever grateful to have this space to share my museum of marvels. Much love to you all ❤️

Burned in the dryer: never dyed anything in my life— help?

It smells nothing like burn anything so it’s salvageable. I was thinking using tea to dye it so the base is close to the burn color. Or have splotches that look intentional.

Material: 100% cotton and cotton threads with 100% polyester fill

I’m open to any and all suggestions and ideas for dyeing, coloring, and styling! I would like earth tones I guess…? I do not want neon colors that would be my hard no……..?

Thanks :)
