Seeking router recommendations

I am looking in to buying a new router to use with the Mini in virtual wire mode. The ISP-issued routers I have been being given have not been very kind to it it appears they aren't handling the load well. I am getting my second one in a week tomorrow. I know the Mini has router mode but I'd rather use it in virtual wire. What routers are people using with their devices? I have two gaming consoles, a tv, a Roku, a Mac, and some smart devices from Amazon if that helps. I need something that can handle a big load with a lot of LAN ports because I prefer to wire the tv and gaming consoles. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is port forwarding necessary?

Now that my Deeper Network Mini is finally working after my ISP gave me a new router, I am trying to get everything up and running. I enabled UPNP on the router. Do I still need to make port forwarding rules or is that sufficient? If I need to make rules I know I will have to probably do it manuy as none of my hard-wired devices show up in my ISP's router settings within its app. Hopefully enabling UPNP will help with tunnel stability. thanks in advance. I am new to this but am loving what I am experiencing.

I am trying to get a Deeper Connect Mini to work in virtual wire mode. I learned about onearm mode yesterday. When connecting via onearm mode using my router, the Mini came online just fine. It is when I connect it between the router and the modem that things stop. In researching possible fixes, I have learned that the modem may be bound to the router's Mac address and that the best thing to do is to power everything off, wait a few minutes for the modem to reset the connection, then turn on the modem, the Mini, and the router in that order. Can anyone verify that this works or am I missing something? I have had to buy a 5-port switch for my network owing to the small number of ports on the router. THe router and modem are provided by my ISP. I do not intend to hoook the Mini up to my new switch when I install it. I appreciate any help.
