Moss Mother speedrun skip (explanation in description)
The collision on the walls in Moss Grotto is pretty weird in some places, making it just barely possible to skip Moss Mother in a speedrun.
- Double-input jump
This bit looks weird and requires some explanation. A few days ago in the speedrunning discord, the user Inverted discovered a trick when inputting jump on both keyboard and controller at the same time.
This applies the jump velocity twice, leading to a 'double-input jump', making it possible to reach the first bit of poking out collision, which otherwise wouldn't be possible.
It can also be reached using a well-timed coyote jump (where you jump moments after walking off the ledge) - but this is significantly harder due to how tight coyote time in Silksong is.
- Jump from the first bit of poking out collision on the left to the right.
This jump isn't as tight as the previous one and just requires holding jump to ensure you get the full height.
- Jump back to the right, then spam jump to jump again at the right moment.
Slightly tighter and it is easy to miss this trick, but if you spam click fast enough you can consistently jump from the lower, slanted collision to the flatter part above.
- Jump to the left again
Basically the same as #2, not a difficult jump just make sure not to cut off the jump too soon
- Jump to the right, then hold left to land on the collision above
Kind of hard to explain the exact movement here in words but it's not too difficult, just see the clip for an example
The only difficult part of this trick is step 1, pressing the inputs simultaneously can be a bit of a pain, but once that's done it can save quite a bit of time in speedruns, since it also skips the final weakness cutscene with the chapel maid.
Right now it's thought that the other parts of Moss Grotto aren't skippable in the same way as the collision on the lower walls is a bit smoother, but it might be possible with perfectly timed double-input jumps.
