987.1 emergency trunk release

Managed to lock my keys in my trunk at my friend's place in Maine with minimal tools and wheel lock in the glove box. Thankfully I got lucky finding a solution. And thought I'd share, as it's a lot easier than taking the wheel off!

PSA Do not buy Rennline OE+ Control Arms

Thought I'd share findings here after creating a rennlist thread on this issue. Basically 987 Rennline OE+ control arms have a high likely hood of cracking your 987 front subframe. There are 2 issues here. 1) the width of the bushing is too small 2) there is a gap on the inner sleeve of the bushing that causes it to compress significantly leading to a cracked subframe. I have purchased 3 arms. Only one has not cracked a subframe. (which was just luck). There have been several reports between 987 and 997 owners of this issue across multiple brands.

I'd recommend taking measurements before you install the control arm, torque a bolt through the control arm uninstalled and check for excessive bushing compression. There should be basically none like the OEM arm.

Hey all 2007 cayman base, noticed this knocking noise at around 2000rpm when warm. No knocking at low rpms, and nothing loud when driving.

I did some digging around forums and I guess a lot of people have this knocking sound, and no one has really identified what is the cause. Obviously the big concern is rod bearing, but I don't think that's the case. I recently did an oil change and found no metal in the oil or filter.

A big thing is I notice it gets quieter when I press the clutch in, and I can actually feel it in the clutch pedal. So I'm wondering if it's throw out bearing or flywheel related? Any input would be helpful. I'll probably have a shop look at it in the near future.

First rev is with the clutch not in. The second rev is with the clutch in.

Hey all, recently picked up a 2007 cayman base with roughly 90k miles. I got a PPI done on the car from a specialty shop, and overall came back pretty good. There is some maintenance items, but nothing I'm not willing to work on myself.

One thing with the car is this smoke on start up, the previous owner said he did the AOS and it looks like a new unit installed, but wondering if anyone has had any issues with faulty parts or bad installs leading to it smoking? It smokes most times on cold starts or starts a few hours after a drive. Oil says it's at the max (sometimes over the max depending on grade of surface). Thinking that could be the problem as well.

I'm new to the realm of Porsche ownership, but I know some smoke on start up is normal given how the cars are designed. Just the amount can seem a little excessive to me. Haven't noticed any rapid oil consumption, or smoke beyond start up.

Overall I love the car, just want to make it better where I can. Thanks for the input in advance!
