what camera should i get?
Back in high school I got a Grade 9 in photography, and I also carried it on into A-Levels. But when it came to university, I decided not to pursue it as my degree because I slowly started losing the love for it during college. A lot of the coursework felt really demanding and structured, and it took away the creative freedom and personal eye that originally made me enjoy photography so much.
I study media production at uni now, but recently I’ve really wanted to get back into photography purely for myself again, as a hobby and passion, rather than following coursework rules or strict briefings. I’m also going travelling for a couple of weeks soon, so it feels like the perfect time to properly get back into it.
I’ve been thinking about getting my own camera, potentially second hand, but I honestly don’t really know where to start. I book out university cameras sometimes for numerous different types of photography, and I have also used a family member’s mirrorless camera in the past, but I’m still unsure what I actually prefer. Part of me likes the feel of Canon DSLRs, especially having a proper viewfinder, but I don’t really know much about the differences between different DSLR or mirrorless cameras or what would suit me best as i’ve never hugely read into it and i don’t know what’s too old.
I’d mainly want something good for travel, everyday photography, pets, street shots, portraits, i also love photographing my garden but just something where i can be creative again with anything but something that will look better than just using my iphone camera.
If anyone has any advice or recommendations, or could explain the main differences between cameras in a simple way, I’d really appreciate it :)
thank you!
