My first coleus

Sprouted this from seed about 6.5-7 months ago and instantly knew I wanted a little coleus “tree”. One hyperfocus after another and it’s finally getting to the form I want! Needs some pruning soon but i’m pretty happy with how my first ever coleus turned out

4.5 month old flame tree

I’m new to this all, but have been growing this flame tree out for 4.5 months now from seed. It’s not a bonsai yet but i’m liking its growth so far. About 2ft tall and 4ft wide (at its widest point) currently, so the trunk is thickening up fast! Plan on making it a larger bonsai/patio tree blend. Just wanted to show its progress but any advice is welcome as I just started growing this year and have lots to learn!

Cut my sunflowers down today, amazed at the stem

Today i finally decided to cut (saw) down the sunflowers. they were hit hard with multiple occasions of 50+mph wind storms, and a 70-85mph wind storm. They definitely responded! I lifted myself up on a stem and it fully supported my weight without bending at all. This is pretty much a tree at this point😂

1st year of growing collection

This february I started growing things. Here’s about half of the plants. Nearly all of them grown from seed, with the japanese black pine being the oldest one (199 days old today). The bigger sunflowers bloomed while I was away so i couldn’t get a pic of those sadly. All of the soil is personally mixed and has introduced microbes/fungi I manage, along with osmocote plus pellet fertilizer

It’s not perfect by any means, but i’d say a pretty successful first year of gardening at the least. Definitely going to be a life long hobby😌

Plant list:
Flame trees (delonix regia), japanese black pine, coleuses, cut & come again zinnias, rainbow ornamental corn, autumn beauty sunflowers, american giant sunflowers, velvet queen sunflowers, swamp milkweed, majesty palm, mini rose, dumb cane, kalanchoe, spider plants, begonia, hoya vine, potted green ash (to protect against eab)

I’m in a weird spot where I don’t live in a year round warm climate, but in a few years I’m moving to a much much warmer climate. So it’s a weird blend of cold hardy plants and tropical plants, but I have a precisely controlled and automated indoor environment for overwintering tropicals that mimics nature as much as possible. Trying to stay future oriented, although I can’t take the cold hardy plants with me when I move

That’s all though. I never get to talk about this stuff or show anyone, so figured i’d post here. Happy growing🌱

4.5 month old flame tree

This year I started diving deep into growing things. This is a 135 day old flame tree I grew from seed to make for a future bonsai. It’s 14” wide and 6.5” tall. Grown fully indoors under 2 full spectrum lights with UV and IR, and automated environmental scheduling to mimic night and day cycles. It also has a 24/7 breeze. It’s in a blend of endomycorrhizae loaded organic forest soil with perlite, zeolite, lava rock, and maifan stone. I mainly just wanted to show the growth i’ve achieved in this new found hobby. But there is still so much to learn and i’m a complete beginner so any tips/tricks are appreciated too!

Also a lighter next to a flame tree was completely unintentional😂 Used it for a size reference

My experimental sunflower

New to indoor gardening as a whole, and wanted to test my environment/grow lights with this sunflower. Pretty happy with the results and have been learning A LOT from it!
