New foster is kind of aggressive with existing dog. Need advice!

Hello all, I’m needing some advice/help with a new foster dog in the home.

My wife and I adopted a dog 2 years ago and have babied him to death lol. He’s been lonely recently it seems, so we decided to foster-to-adopt a dog. Our existing dog is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever mix, and the foster is a Shih Tzu. Existing dog is 8 years old and foster is 3. They are not getting along at all! The existing dog avoids the foster, and is very submissive; hiding behind us, going in his crate and actually pulling on the door to close it, and has his tail tucked in addition to panting. The foster has shown his teeth, growled, and even pursued our existing dog while barking and growling, sometimes unprovoked.

The rescue said this is normal, especially since it’s only been 3 days, but I just worry it’s putting too much stress on our existing dog and just not sure what to do.

They’re completely normal at the dog park and in the car, they mainly avoid each other outside, but once we’re home - that’s where it seems like the problems start.

I’d really appreciate any help! Thanks so much!

I have a few offers on the table:

State Government job (J1):

- Remote

- Low stress/pressure, deadlines are about 3-years per case; so lots of lenient work.

- Accounting, Auditing, Finance type of work

- Ability to grow, though slowly

- Guaranteed 3% raise after 1 year, then a 7% raise at 2 years.

- Insurance costs slowly rising, and hitting 3% increase this year.

- Salary of $50k + any travel costs covered or reimbursed.

Larger state ran University (J2):

- In person/onsite

- Management level, with deadlines, shifting priorities, and annual reports.

- Auditing & Accounting level manager

- Very slow growth, next role up would be the VP level (this role is a direct report to the VP instead of a director).

- Raise is not guaranteed, but has been given each year for the last 7 years. Usually between 2-14%, depending on role

- Follows the same insurance trends at the previous (J1) position.

- Salary is $65k-$70k (not finalized, supposed to send the offer next week when VP is back from vacation).

Very large regional bank (J3):

- In person/onsite

- Assistant Vice President of Operations position, more priorities, responsibilities, pressure etc

- Operations position focusing on finance, business operations, consumer accounts, and sales support.

- Minor growth into VP/SVP role, or into other positions

- No guaranteed raise at all

- Benefits seem to actually be more affordable than the government roles, and there are additional benefits and services offered

- Salary is $86,000 + $15,000 bonus after 12 months, then a $7,000 bonus per year so long as the market area performs above 51% otherwise it’s $5,000 (market is high volume, and primary sponsor on most regional things in the state). As well as $2,500 year stipend for apparel to dress the part, $100/mo phone stipend, $300/mo car stipend, 21 paid days off + holidays and 15 days of sick leave.
