Rockfish Brewing to move into Ace Biscuit & Barbecue space

"A NEW CHAPTER FOR ROCKFISH

After nearly seven years, we’re excited and a little bittersweet to officially announce that Rockfish Brewing Company will be moving our Preston location down a couple blocks to Concord and Harris this fall. For now, nothing changes, both our locations are open as usual so come have a beer!

We opened in 2019, knowing redevelopment of the property was to begin by the end of 2025 (now 2027), so we’re grateful that we have had Preston longer than expected. We began looking for our next space this year and wanted to find a place where we could preserve what has made Preston special rather than simply replace it.

Preston has meant a tremendous amount to us as a forum to brew handcrafted, small-batch, true-to-style beer and share it with our community. Even more importantly, it became a neighborhood gathering place filled with people who appreciate great beer, conversation, and the kind of atmosphere that can only develop organically over time. That is what made Preston special, and it's what we intend to bring with us.

The new location gives us the opportunity to keep that neighborhood brewery feel while offering more room for customers, events, and awesome food without losing sight of the focus on fresh beer. There is something fitting as Rockfish celebrates its 7th anniversary this year and we want to say a proper goodbye to Preston, a place that has been such an important part of our story. We are currently building out the Concord location and are targeting a move this fall. As things progress, we’ll share more details about the timeline, our final days on Preston, and the opening of Concord.

Thank you to everyone who has made Preston what it is. We hope you’ll help us give it a proper sendoff — and then join us for the next chapter."

EPL Soccer Watch Spots

English Premier League is upon us kicking off this weekend. As a refresher to this post from last year here's the local EPL fan spots for anyone that doesn't already know or looking to watch will other fans. These spots are welcoming to all soccer fans so even if you are not a fan of the team(s) they back definitely still check them to be around fellow EPL fans.

(links below are the the local EPL fan/team IG groups)
RANDOM ROW - Liverpool
ROCKFISH (Preston Ave.) - Arsenal
- EPL Fantasy League for 2026/2027. Winner gets a $100 gift card. See the post on their linked fan page above for details.
SUPERFLY - Leeds AND Manchester United
- For the 2026/2027 season, SuperFly will open at 7:30am EVERY SAT and 8:00am EVERY SUN regardless of teams playing.
- SF will also be serving Ed's Breakfast Menu - Breakfast Sandwiches, Vegan Breakfast Sandwiches, Cold Brew Coffee, etc
- Weekly EPL Pick 6: Pick any 6 matches for that week's games along with outcome (home win, draw, away win). Pick all 6 correct and receive a $50 gift card. Visit the taproom before the week's matches start and ask the beer slinger for a pick em card to fill out.
KARDINAL HALL - Tottenham

Rockfish and SuperFly open for every one of their supporting team's matches even if it is outside their regular hours.....even if it's a 7:30am match. I'm not as familiar with Random Row but prerty sure they at least open for all of Liverpool's Premier League matches.

Other spots to catch a match though not necessarily supporting specific teams. You'll need to check with them to see if they have any special hours for EPL matches outside of regular operation.
- Fox Den (Hollymead) - Chelsea perhaps??
- Starr Hill @ Dairy Market
- Three Notch'd
- Beer Run

Combat Spec H1 showing up at Dick’s

Didn’t get a pic but my local Dick’s (Virginia) now has the H1 so keep an eye if you’re looking. Wasn’t there last week. Front display in the baseball section. Had 10 bats split equally between the 32” and 33”.

2027 USA Hype Fire

CORRECTION: just realized this is the Intermediate (50/70) Baseball World Series International Championship. Still LL sanctioned. I was wondering why kids were taking leads and they were going into a 7th inning.

Happened to switch over to the LLWS Intermediate Baseball World Series International Championship after watching the US Regionals the past couple days and saw Puerto Rico swinging the new 2027 Hype Fire. Have not seen any of the U.S. teams swinging it yet.

Yeah, I know USA bats are essentially all the same, other than the drastic price differences, but for those parents when your kids see these all over the LLWS in a couple weeks.

Photo Booth

I’ve seen the question looking for one pop up from time to time but for those seeking out the new Starr Hill Bar at Dairy Market (formerly Milkman’s) has one though it’s not necessarily your nostalgic arcade looking booth but serves the same purpose.

Just found out a tournament my kid is playing in coming up this month is a 100% wood bat tournament. Not familiar with wood bats and first wood tournament. They didn't really provide direction in regards to bat cetification (if wood bats even have this) other than NO composite, NO bamboo and 100% wood from top to bottom. Not looking to break the bank on a bat he will probably only game once for a tournament like this. He currently uses a 31"/-5 Supra for travel and 32/-3 Combat on the school team so looking for something equivalent in weight / barrel diameter in a wood spec that's fairly accessible locally as I don't think there's time to order online, and have a few days to swing it before the tournament. We have a Dick's and PIAGS nearby. There's an Academy about an hour away. I did search the sub and found this great chart that showed wood equivalents

The little research I've done online is that wood bats don't seem to list the weight which makes since considering it's wood and can vary. Knowing wood is heavier should he stick with a 31" or maybe drop to a 30"? He's 5'7" / 145-150. I would say sticking in the $100 range considering this one-day tournament he may get 6-8 at bats over the 2-3 games. He does have a cheap wood bat (I think it's this one in a 31". at least it looks identical) we got a few years ago to practice with he could try to game but I am thinking a cheap bat like that with how kids pitch at this age could break rather easily. Any suggestions or direction would be appreciated.
