P3 with a research-heavy profile. am I over-indexing on pubs?

P3, oncology PGY1 → PGY2 track, targeting academic medical centers.

Most of my CV strength is research: ~20 PubMed-indexed publications, mix of first-author and co-author, oncology/pharmacology (a mix of review articles and some bench original research). Clinical experience is solid but not standout, and my leadership is org-level rather than exceptional.

Question for RPDs / current residents: at what point do publications stop moving the needle? Is a research-heavy profile a genuine differentiator for competitive AMC programs, or does it plateau fast and I should be redirecting energy toward rotations, LORs, and interview prep?

Trying to figure out if I’m building on a strength or quietly neglecting gaps. Appreciate any honest read.

MD Anderson PGY1 residency, how competitive is it, what are the preceptors like, and what was the interview process?

Trying to get a real picture of MDA's PGY1 residency. Would love to hear from anyone who has interviewed, matched, or trained there.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

How competitive is the match for MDA's oncology track? If anyone knows rough applicant to spot ratios, that would help.

For people who matched or interviewed, what actually mattered? Pubs, an APPE at MDA, connections, or interview performance?

What are the RPDs and preceptors like day to day? Teaching style, expectations, how much autonomy you get.

For current or former residents, why did you pick MDA over other strong academic onc programs like CityofHope or Moffitt?

What was the interview process like? Format, length, on site or virtual, and what kinds of questions they actually asked, behavioral, clinical, or research focused. Was there a case or presentation component?

Anything that caught you off guard or that you wish you had prepped harder for?

Any detail helps. Thanks in advance.
