Next summer, Crown Prince Christian of Denmark is scheduled to call himself a first lieutenant. But that doesn't have to be the end of life in uniform.
For the country's future king is now opening up the possibility that the next step could be a secondment.
He says this in his first major interview with Politiken.
"I haven't locked myself into anything yet. I'm open to all the things that could come, and I'm looking at the different options. If a secondment were to come up and I got the opportunity, I would definitely find it interesting," he tells the media outlet.
Where any possible secondment would go in that case is completely open. Denmark is sending soldiers to Latvia as part of the defense of NATO's eastern flank, while Greenland is also mentioned as a possibility in the interview.
The Crown Prince emphasizes, however, that it will ultimately be up to the Armed Forces to decide where he can best be of use.
On the way to the new adventure, the thought murmuration planted in the body of the country's heir to the throne.
"I remember on the drive down there my whole body was shaking, I was super nervous and I was like, uh, 1 sure want this." I was actually in a lot of doubt and I was like, what if I don't like it.
So far, the Crown Prince has only spoken to the press a few times and briefly in connection with the Royal Run exercise race and after a flight in an F-16 fighter jet, but now the Politician Jakob Hvide Beim has had the opportunity to interview the Crown Prince about his personal experiences with the defence.
There is also a small, discreet revelation about his housing situation. Although the Crown Prince still lives in the family palace at Amalienborg, he has been given his own residence. Thus, Christian lives in his own apartment adjacent to Frederik VIII's Palace.
In his first major interview with Politiken, the soon-to-be 21-year-old crown prince says that the prospect of one day taking over the throne feels both great and overwhelming:
"It's surreal for me to think about it," he tells Politiken and continues:
"I'm about to turn 21, and I know that this is what my future holds, among other things. I've known it from a young age and have been prepared for the task by my parents. So it's something I'm obviously both excited about and nervous about."
